doyoungl
Hello all. I am interested in using the POD HD--I would like to play my guitar through the computer while at the same time being able to play music from background applications such as Winamp. Currently, I use the Little Dot DAC_1 and Little Dot MK III amp with my studio monitors. There are a few inputs on the DAC, one of which are toslink which is how I connect it to my PC. There is also a single RCA input as well. Essentially, I was wondering if I would be able to use the POD HD while utilizing the DAC/Amp I currently have. Guidance and advice would be greatly appreciate, thanks!
silverhead
When you connect your POD HD to your computer you can assign it as your computer's audio device using the sounds control panel. This means all sounds originating from your computer (like your Winamp program) will be played through your POD. You will hear it through your POD outputs along with your guitar. Use the volume controls in Winamp to balance the volumes. You can also use the Line 6 audio/MIDI control panel to adjust the relative volumes. Thanks for your response--would it be possible to have all the sounds originating from the computer to be played through my amp and DAC? I would like to use the POD for the guitar effects and whatnot, but would like the audio processing to be done by my DAC/Amp.
Mr_Arkadin
Why not use the S/PDIF input on your DAC? The HD has an RCA S/PDIF output.
doyoungl
So would I have the HD connected to the computer and then connect the HD to my DAC through coaxial RCA? If this were the case, would that mean the DAC would still be doing the audio processing (or whatever term that should be)? Thanks!

Mr_Arkadin
Because of the configuration of inputs on the DAC 1 I don't think you can do what you want. Really you need the DAC 1 to have an analogue stereo input and it doesn't. If you bypass the DAC completely you could do the following: Connect POD HD to your computer via USB. Use the POD driver and select the POD as your sound card. Connect the analogue outputs of the POD to you MKIII amp. Careful with that volume knob! I thought you could use the S/PDIF output on the POD but I believe that only outputs the guitar signal, not the guitar+computer signal. What other connections does your computer sound card have (you mentioned TOS Link)?
still_fiddlin
It sounds like an audio interface (i.e., like many use for home recording) is more like what you want, where you can monitor from the interface, using its mixing and DAC to drive headphones or any other kind of line out. Either that, or use some DAW software that will allow you to mix inputs from different streams on the computer and route the mix to your DAC. To be honest, I don't know if that's possible, but you can always drop a music file in as a stereo track and select the POD as input, routing output back to the POD or wherever. That's not very convenient for "anytime" kind of usage, though.
