So starting with fresh alkaline batteries the meters show 8 hours and then they drop. But how long do the transmitters actually work before the RF LEDs change from green to red (indicating the batteries are actually dead. Remember the BAT LEDs show red with about 2 hours left to go.
What are the serial numbers of the transmitters? What version of firmware are you running in the transmitters and receivers?

There was a known issue with some of the earlier packs which involved a partial short in the battery terminals that would cause similar symptoms. One of mine was fixed under warranty for that but recently another (long out of warranty) has started to misbehave in the same way. Does your pack get unusually warm? That's the tell-tale sign that the batteries are being drained rather too quickly.

I thought I'd "chime in", (more-or-less as a sidelight to both Don's and Sheriton's typically well-considered and "spot on" replies) just in case you'd appreciate some more info on the other vexed issue that you raised, being the use of rechargeable AA batteries.
My feeling is that the various contributors to this discussion http://line6.com/sup...hl=rechargeable probably cover the issue better than most of the other material that I've seen.
