Your Cable Solutions For 4cm?

I just picked up a new amp and will be running it in 4CM with the HD500. Up until now I've been mainly using the HD500 straight into the FX return so setup for a show was easy - dealing with 4 (or 5 if I decide to use the amp footswitch too) is making me nervous  :P .

Would love to see or read about how you deal with it? I've looked at the PedalSnake but it's pricy. Pedal Python also looks interesting. I've tried zip tie/velcro tying cables together before and it still seemed pretty clunky. Maybe I've just too OCD about it.  :D

I made a snake much like the pedal python, for my Marshall JVM, only I used heat shrink tubing at the ends. My snake had six cables : 4 audio, 1 midi, and 1 power. Worked fine.

But now with the DT25 I just bought a combo-cable with DMX and power... Love the L6 link !

Pedal Python works like a champ! So simple but so much cleaner!

looks great... how's the new amp working out with the 4 cable method? I'm thinking of a 1x12 combo tube amp for jams and would use 4cm with it.  Are you digging this setup?

Works great! A little noisier than running straight in but once you dial in all the levels appropriately it is very transparent tone-wise. I used this post from Jim Reynolds (who is also on this forum) to help get the 4CM patches set correctly:

I love having the standalone combo for quick simple setups but the flexibility of integrating the pod for all the fx when I need them. I sing in the band too so being able to hit one button to switch everything is really important - and I don't really want to invest a ton of money in a fancy switching system for a more traditional pedalboard setup.

I just wish the POD had an amp channel switching jack - then it would be perfect! Right now I actually use the Fender Twin Pre model for my cleans so I don't have to actually change the Mesa's amp channel with a second stomp. I might pickup one of the RJM Switch Gizmos in the future to allow that via midi, but I like the simplicity of my setup right now and would hate to spoil it (and I don't use clean too much with my band)

Maybe you guys can help me to the shortcut here.....

I've got a new 50 watt head, 212 cab, and am interested in using the pod as effects for (reverb, delay, phase, etc).

I'm currently running a 4 cm but my amp sounds fizzy, or over distorted. There may be a setting or something I need to dial back on the pod. Panning the right to mute, left to about 12db. I did put a studio EQ I front of e efx loop in the chain. Not sure that does anything for me....dunno.

Im Also running in studio output. Are you (guys) running In combo, half stack, output?

Just curious as to the variations of what is working for you.

Thanks

SSS

If you aren't using the amp modeling (or using amps without the speaker modeling) the output mode won't matter. I'm currently using studio mode.

The key thing to getting it dialed in is to compare levels/gain with and without the Pod as much as possible. If you are using the method from Jim's post on the JVM forum above then what I would do is first get the levels dialed in for the front of your amp and then move on to the FX loop.

Plug in your guitar into the Pod, then plug in the FX send cable into the input of your amp. Add the FX loop block in your preset. Add the Studio EQ in front the FX loop with +6db of gain. That is your starting point. Ideally this should sound the same as plugging your guitar directly into the amp. Try the clean channel of your amp, is the volume the same? If it's quieter through the Pod try turning the gain on the EQ pedal up a little bit to match. If it is louder try turning it down a little. You may also want to play with the guitar input pad switch. Once you get this matched, save it and then move on to the FX loop.

With the FX loop it a similar deal, try to get it to be the same sound with and without the POD - if your amp has an FX loop switch this is a little easier as you can just flip the switch vs unplugging a bunch of cables. For my amp (Mesa Rectoverb 25) I found setting the 1/4 output to amp and leaving the mixer at 0 (path 1 panned center with path 2 muted) and the master output knob at max matched the general output well. If this doesn't work well for your amp flip the 1/4 output switch to line (be careful it will be loud!) and then adjust the mixer output level until it matches the level with the fx loop off.

Hope that helps!
