Hi

Does anyone know what happens if you plug the cat 5 type plug from a variax into the socket -marked 'pedal'on a pod xt (red bean type)? It says in the blurb about the jtvs that the have 'limiyed compatibility' with pod xt....what does this mean?

thanks

Don't do it.  The RJ45 on the POD XT is for a FBV Pedal Board.  The Variax would plug into a XT Live, or a XT Pro, not a bean.

You can only use the 1/4 inch standard guitar cable with this unit!  Do NOT plug your Variax into the RJ45 plug marked for Pedal board.

Thanks for your replies....Its just a bit odd that these two Line 6 products have the same kind of connector on them and it does mention 'limited compatibility'....and yet there is no specific warning anywhere in the documentation or product videos that warns you not to connect them.

Sooner or later some angry user with a ruined JTV will file a McLawsuit...then there will be a warning label just like on the coffee cups at the drive-thru...

the "same type" cable is an industry standard cable (cat5) with an industry standard connecter/socket (rj45)

it is used in many many things... including your computer and your cable modem....

neither of which offer any compatibility through that connection.

you did good to ask, now you know. it's that simple.

Thanks again....I don't actually know what happened at the drive-thru, but does anybody actually know what happens if you do connect the variax to the beany pod? that was my original question. cheers.

Yes - the connection will attempt to establish a power flow from your XT to your Variax guitar. If power begins to flow, the power will probably not match the voltage/type of power that the Variax is expecting to receive. This may cause internal damage to your Variax, and perhaps even to your XT.

Even if there is no damage the connection certainly won't do anything useful in terms of the XT and the Variax communicating with each other.

Do this at your own risk.

If it's not labeled Variax then I'm pretty sure that means it's not for a Variax. Besides, the VDI has a casing on the ends of the cables that wouldn't allow you to fit it in an ethernet port unless you took that off.

The cable that came with my WB does not have a shell on the other end - only on the Variax end.  Still I think folks should be smart enough to RTFM and not plug the wrong things into a Pod.
