Need Advices For Hd500 + Dt25

Hello guys,

Well, as a lot of people owning a HD500 and DT25, the problem I'm facing is that to have a good sound using only the POD into my computer but when I use the POD with my DT25, all patches sound totally different... too bad, without consistency. It's a nightmare for me to create patches during hours on the HD500, achieve a good result, then when I want to play with my DT25, all my work sound crap.

When I bought the DT25 to use with my POD, I never thought that I will have a result as much different...

I really need your help to understand WHY the patches don't sound the same (Yes, my POD in conected correctly to the DT25), and how I can reproduce the sound created for direct output when I use the DT25. Maybe I'm missing some important information and/or my knowledge is not enough to understand what I have to do.

I'm just tied of this fact and need serious advices.

Thx

no matter what you're playing through... you need to make the patches FOR that, and at the volume you intend to play it...

regardless of which device or who makes it.....

i suspect that you're probably still in combo mode when using the computer too... since the DT amp will switch it automatically...

maybe maybe not... but that could certainly cause a big difference as well.

Hi TheRealZap,

When I use the POD only with the computer I'm not in combo mode and the DT amp indeed switch it automatically.

Do I have to use only preamp models for the DT and not amps?

Thx

Unfortunately, you will have to experiment with the different options and find what sounds best to you. Someone else's settings may or may not sound good to you. There are no right or wrong choices. Try both preamp and full amp models...play around with everything and see what you like. There's no escaping that phase...and get used to the idea of having different banks of patches...one set for headphones, one for bedroom volume through an amp, and one at rehearsal/gig volume...no getting around that either.

I have been struggling to get my DT-25 sound satisfactory to my taste for a long time.

Especially the high gain tones just didn't come out well at the rehearsals at high volume.

At home the sounded great. They even sounded good without the band at high volume.

As soon as I played with the band it just didn't cut through and sounded like mud.

A few weeks ago I made a breakthrough with the help of some double cab patches I downloaded a long time ago.

Now the high gain tones are fantastic!

Now I make all my DT patches in a similar way. Just remember, you have to have some mono effect in front of the signal split turned on. This could also be a noise gate for instance (I use that for my clean tone).

For recording I make similar patches with full amps. Using this setup also seems to solve the phasing problem for me.

Yep, this is what I want to avoid man, I just want to create my patches only once. :(

it's impossible unless you plan to play at the same volume in the same environment all the time.

the perception of sound changes at volume....

If we use the Stage Source Speaker instead the DT25, will we have less diference?

I think that theoretically you will have less difference from a Stage Source speaker than from a DT amp because the Stage Source speaker will attempt to replicate the ENTIRE preset (including the amp model) as opposed to replicating the preamp portion and relying instead on the Bogner tube section to do the amp voicing.

The same would be possible sending your direct outs to any FRFR type of powered speaker. Yet, if you stay with it, you may find that the DT's give you an organic (ie natural tube) tone that's not possible with any solid state speaker - including Stage Source. That's what happening to us.

BTW, we are attempting to settle pretty-much this exact situation and have a thread on the Dream Rig forum you might want to also checkc out. You'll find it here: http://line6.com/support/topic/6066-amp-pre-vs-full-amp-model-in-hd500-in-front-of-dt25/

You might want to try running your presets in low volume mode and see if that sounds more like what you're hoping for. Then, you can rewrite the presets using the PRE models to allow the Bogner to do what it does.

Hope this helps.
