4 Cable Method And External Stomp Box With Jtv

Looking to see if there is a solution for this: I am interested in the 4 cable method with my JTV-59S and HD500X, but would also like to use some external distortion boxes I have.

I see the primary problem being that I connect my JTV to the HD using the VDI cable, so I cannot just run a distortion box in front of the HD (i.e. JTV --> stomp --> HD500x) since the box obviously doesn't have a VDI input.

I thought about running it HD FX send --> box --> amp input, but that affects the tone based on the signal chain. I suppose I could use an ABY box, and use the 1/4" jack on the JTV to the box to the a second 1/4" input on the HD. So it would be:

JTV VDI --> HD VDI In

JTV 1/4 --> ABY In --> A "Out" (silent when B selected) --> HD 1/4" In

But it would eliminate some of the JTV features when I'm using the box, plus a lot of cables and some extra tap dancing I'd rather not deal with. Anyone have any better ideas?

If I understand correctly, I think you could use both JTV outputs: VDI to the HD500X and 1/4" to your stompbox in front of the HD500X, then stompbox output to HD500X Guitar In. In your HD500X preset, select Input1=Guitar and make sure Input2 is NOT set to Variax or Variax Mags. This effectively allows you to use the VDI connection for HD500X->JTV control purposes only (not audio) and your JTV 1/4" -> HD500X for audio.
