Maxing Out The Dsp In M20d

Recommended Posts

We use all 16 channels in our 7 piece and lately I've been hearing occasional pops and clicks and sometimes the mixer will become unresponsive or seriously lag. Can someone tell me if lowering the amount of effects on each channel strip will help this? And does clicking the power button on the rack effect in the channel strip disable it to lower cpu or do I need to delete it from the channel strip all together?

Clicks? Are you connecting to Line 6 speakers via L6 link? Are you also using an iPad.

I do use one or two Ipads at once. This is with a headphone practice setup so my L6 speakers are not setup at the time. I am using the recommended cisco wifi adapter. do you think the issue is not CPU/RAM usage and wifi ipad related?

I think the two issues are unrelated. I am unaware of any reported clicks with the exception of older L3 firmware. The 1.05 update corrects that. How have you determined that the clicks are not part of the incoming signal?

With reference to iPads, It Is likely that the screen refresh rate can be affected if you use multiple iPads and make a fair number of movements from them. There's not really a way to quantify it any better. It is also somewhat affected if you happen to also be recording simultaneously. But you are not overrunning the CPU. It's only the video driver that is affected so I don't believe that could be the source of any clicking.

I will double check my signal path but the pop sounds the same as when you set a audio interface to a low latency and it "clicks and pops".  Regarding the video issue the m20d screen and the ipads will all choke up and become unresponsive to the point where i will need to reboot .  can you tell me how many ipads can be connected at the same time and not have this issue ? the goal was to be able to provide the drummer with control of his mix , lead guitar player with his control and front of house as well

You are using a dongle router?

There's not a single answer to how many iPads. It's more like how much data? I have used 5 of them connected via an airport express. I have also looked up the system using 10 of them.

Still not seeing if you are recording at the same time while having problems.

I am not recording but the issue will get worse when I do. I am using the  usb Linksys AE1000 High-Performance Wireless-N Adapter.  Do you think a usb to Ethernet hooked upto a airport express would be a better solution?

Sorry that sometimes my answers are shorter than I'd like.  That's usually because I'm sitting at an airport and trying to catch up on questions using my phone.

I should add ... that by nature the dongle WI-Fi routers require the mixer to do a lot of additional processing to get the wi-fi up and running.  When you use an external router it handles that load requiring much less from the mixer itself.

No problem I ended up getting a apple usb to Ethernet. The i pads definitely connect right away every time without having to power off and on the mixer like with the usb wifi stick. I am going to conduct some experiments this weekend and see if the lag gets anybetter
