Fw V2.0 On Jtv Causing Pod Hd500x To Reboot

Recommended Posts

Last week I got my POD HD500x back from repairs thinking it was my POD not working. What is happening is when I have my JTV-69s plugged in via the VDI cable and power up the POD, when I make my first patch selection the POD reboots. After that is works fine. So the repair person suggested trying my guitar on another 500x to see if it does the same and that it does, it made that one reboot too. So it's my JTV. I then rolled back the FW from v2.0 back to v1.9 and this problem goes away. I know others have had different issues with v2.0 but I haven't read any post that have v2.0 do this. Guess I'll be staying on v1.9 till a new firmware comes out and see if the updated one fixes this issue for me.

Here is link to the video of what it does: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/11788446/IMG_1790.MOV

Well that's a new one...add it to the list. Other strange firmware related weirdness has been cured with a reflash of the firmware...or two, or three, or four reflashes. Only the big warranty repair bench in the sky knows why...worth a try. Probably won't make anything worse, and you can always roll back again if there is still no joy...

First thing i would try is resetting the global's...

meaning hold down the left key and power on...

this may change your settings to default... which may not be what you want.... but at that point you can start changing them back to your desired settings (assuming it made any difference)

and perhaps determine if there is a particular setting that causes the issue.

it's also possible that this wasn't done after the last flash update, and this may be all that's needed (wishful thinking)

Sorry to say this but this isn't a setting or POD issue and resetting the POD and re-installing the firmware won't fix it.  It's a firmware version 2.0 problem. This is an issue.  I am sure you or most can replicate the issue.

BTW...  I can't find my support ticket anymore?  Probably due to the new site?

So, if you have your JTV and POD connected via VDI.  Don't unplug anything (Like the VDI connection).  Reboot the POD and you don't have this reboot issue? Hummmmm.....

The reason I wanted the ticket was because we went through a bunch of troubleshooting and there was some good information in there that could help on the forum.  I might call them today to see if they still have it.

Unfortunately,  I think I would have had an answer but the Line 6 support team sent my JTV back and never talked to me before they sent it back to me.  They stated it didn't reboot their HD500s.  I can replicate the issue on 4 different HD500's and they couldn't?  Interesting as well.

So, they sent it back stating the battery compartment was bad and they replaced it and it's fixed.  I have seen this fix on the forum and it kinda cracks me up when they say this.  I questioned them on this and even talked to management and asked why would they send back my guitar when it's still broken. (Ok not broken)  The manager put the technician on the phone with us and he stated he tested it so the manager backed him up and not me. NOT!!! Bad support model.

Line 6 has some issues they aren't willing to acknowledge with all of their new firmware versions and their support has some real issues as well.  Maybe they are over worked but when you send a $1500 guitar in to get it fixed you would expect better support.  They are not a toy company anymore.

It's not your problem but some of us really have issues.

Was just playing the 500/JTV59v2 yesterday and even flashed the latest FW... no reboot issues here.

based on your troubleshooting it seems JTV related (just acknowledging... i know its not a revelation...)

have you tried multiple reflashes on the JTV? like down to 1.7x and then direct to 2.0?

Also, it doesn't keep rebooting, it reboots 1 time and then it's all good. So, you actually have to look at your POD when you reboot it.

I thought it was JTV related as well but how come it doesn't do this on any of the earlier firmware versions?

Yes, I have tried everything under the sun but when I go back to 2.0 and even flash it numerous times I still have the issue.

well the reason i suggested going back to 1.7x first is that 1.8x made a significant change in the firmware architecture to accomodate the HD acoustics..

i find that going to this one first, offers the best clean slate forward... but clearly... nothing is a fix it every time deal....

Yes, I have tried 1.7x through 1.8x. I have went directly from 1.7x, 1.8x, 1.9X to 2.0 and every version in between. I have even stepped from 1.7x to 1.8x to 1.9x and then to 2.0.

If I can get the ticket you will see the trouble shooting was extensive. I appreciate your willingness to help but there is a bigger issue with 2.0. IMHO

Mine here also okay, no problem after v2.0 update on my JTV-59 - VDI - HD500 (using v2.2, haven't upgraded into v.2.31)

just a though, maybe it's HD500 firmware issue? maybe it needs a newer version to work with variax v2.0 firmware?

FrozenOzone,

What kind of JTV are you using? I've got a JTV-69s. The others seems to be using a JTV-59 for their test. Maybe it has to do with the type of JTV? Seems unlikely but hey, stranger things have happened.

I installed the new 2.10 firmware and low and behold the reboot is gone.  I have rebooted 10 + times and not a reboot in sight.  SWEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not too sure what they did but now I can actually go to the new FW version and not be too worried about it rebooting.

Thank You Line 6!
