Hurry Up, Already, Line 6!

Recommended Posts

Oh how I wish this guitar had been around 10 years ago when I was playing 4 nights a week in a band that capoed nearly every song.  The reality of gigging then was I carried way too many guitars, way too many pedals, and amps and cabs that weighed way too much.  The reality of gigging now is my JTV 59 gig bag on one shoulder and my HD500 bag on the other!  One trip and done :)

Same here - no problems with my JTV 69 except temperature related retuning (!) and I love Guitar on back, HD500 in one hand and 10" FRFR in the other for the full rig in a single trip. Never mind it sounding better than anything I've ever had before - even the transposed acoustics.

Back to the original topic though....  Hurry up - it's been 6 months already!

Phil - My biggest issue is that I've had to create an entire new bank of 12 presets (whose volumes are significantly louder than those I use with the magnetic pickups) just for using JTV59 guitar models.  Even with the piezo volumes at max levels, they are not as loud as with the magnetic pickups.  I don't want to lower physically the mag pickups because then I lose that gritty sound I like with the screws as close to the strings as possible.  Sorry to steal the thread, but I agree that gigging with the models has created performance issues I wish I didn't have.

this is very strange, in my jtv 69, the sound of the models is much higher than the magnetic, has neither comparison, the models is actually much higher,

I understand what people are saying regarding levels, but I guess it's never bothered me enough for me to really notice it all that much. I switch between the mags and models pretty frequently. If I were switching between guitars, though, I had to take into account the different output levels, too.

I'd say that on my 69, the level of the single coils is pretty close to the Strat model and the humbucker seems to be similar to the bridge of the Les Paul model. But again, it's not really anything I've felt has been a struggle dealing with.

Ah. good point.  I tend to use the single coil models (Strat) and 12-string models (Rick) more than others so maybe it is just those models whose output is less which may also be true if I were to switch between those actual guitars.

Man, do I wish I could get a decent classic non-metal sound out of my HD500...  I've been using it with a QSC FRFR speaker.  Clean sounds and acoustic sounds are to die for.  Overdriven tube amp - not so much.  It just doesn't behave like a real amp in terms of response to pick attack and guitar volume knob.  If I get something that sounds good for rhythm parts at mid-setting, it blows the doors off the room when turning up for leads.  My little $300 Fender Mustang III is far, far closer to responding like a real amplifier.

One thing you may want to try is to edit the models you use with workbench.  You can always go in and adjust the levels on a per patch/per pickup basis.

I use the custom bank to have a mix of strat and les paul sounds and this works great to even out the overall volume.

You will certainly see volume differences with "real" guitars that have single coils vs humbuckers.  I used to build patches specifically for my strat and les paul for this reason.  Now I just use the JTV :)  Love technology!

after 2 years using the pod hd direct in mixer, gigs, 4 per week, I concluded that the only amp with drive, which can be satisfied is the lead plexi 100, this is the only one who can sound organic, the others all seem artificial, the cleans convince me more

Thanks for the tip!  I actually haven't played much with that model.  Worth a try.

I haven't been around in a while, but it sure is refreshing to see some Line 6 reps responding here about V2.0.

Can you comment on whether the acoustic models are being tweaked and/or added? I would really like this thing to have better acoustic models, especially when using a pick.

Do you mean the 'upgraded' models on v1.9? The Jumbo is the only usable one in the whole bunch - and I'm reiterating that from many online posters here, not just my personal opinion. There's really only three models and none have adjustments for EQ/compression/etc within the Workbench.

I thought the guitar models were pretty amazing already. Though the original pre 1.8 acoustics sounded nice, it didn't sound realistic to me. Those where the only real thing I thought struggled a bit to replicate the sound. It sounded to me like a very nicely done piezo acoustic, but definitely not a mic'd acoustic.

The new acoustic models really help the mic sound, though it's not perfect, I thought it was amazingly improved. Anything that's off can be probably bettered by some EQ adjustments anyways.

I would love to hear some good samples out of the dread model. Mine sounds tinny and thin and I'm playing out of a great Countryman DI and full range studio speakers with a sub.

I can get the jumbo sounding decent, especially when finger picking. But strumming with a pick sounds bad on all models. Is there some tweaking I can do?

P.S. - these new forums look great on mobile!

one and the same...

i've heard both sides... those that love them and those that hate them....

but, they're here to stay anyway...

seems the consensus here in the forum that the only acoustic usable is 5, the martins are very bad, the line could improve them, I am professional musician and do 4 gigs a week, in various types of PA, and I repeat, the only really usable and acoustic 5. why the line 6 does not improve the other?

Not sure how you concluded this (can you let us know?) but I use the D-28 models regularly. I also like the acoustic Gibsons. The Martin parlour model is the only one I don't really use.

I came to this conclusion by trying all possible equalization in 2 martin and not succeeding, the jumbo 5 is much better, but full, deeper and more easy to get a good sound. but I already tested the martins Variax 300 and found much better, why not in line 6 of the option to choose?

I personally do prefer & almost exclusively use the D-28 models (occasionally the O-18 model) to the the J-200 hands-down ...

Matter of taste, style and playing-style (Jazz, Blues & Latin - picking in my case ...) ...

I'm using & again prefer s/w version 1.9 to any of the previous versions -  v1.9 sounds the most realistic to my ears ...

My 2 pence.

Cheers,

Wolf

yeah complaints are common...

people that like them... those people are too busy playing to come here and sing praises every few months when those that don't like them get rowdy....

nothing wrong with not liking them... it's subjective and your opinion....

but unless you have some sort of scientific survey...

best to present it as just that... your opinion.

I may have exaggerated the word consensus , but if you look you will see that this opinion is very common here in the forum, the only 5 that is actually usable

you could say the same about any amp or any pedal...

some people just prefer to strip it to basics and it works for some...

don't really think those people are the target crowd for JTV's...

in any case, I know lots of people who play out regularly with JTV's and they are able to adapt and overcome...

... and I wouldn't gig with a JTV, too much hassle with levels between models

Getting back on thread.......I'm desperate for Line 6 to get the new models out.  I'm not like the patient souls who are happy to wait.  I'm irritated that my JTV doesn't sound much better than my old Variax 300 and want the new models to blow the old ones away.  And I want it very soon!!  Happy to play with beta software or sub sets of models if that's what it takes....

Hold tight... I'm not the patient type either... but there isn't much longer to wait.... and NO.... I can't be any more specific than that :)

I hope there's some killer demos when it comes out. If not, give us some demos, guys.

Just cause I got a 600 in January doesn't mean I'm not interested in what's new with the JTV!

You DO realize JTV levels can be set in a Pod HD (or Pod XTLive or Pod X3Live or Vetta II) to any level you like, right?

I have not had a chance to gig with my new JTV, but have done MANY shows with my Variaxes (Tele and Gretsch transplants) and have never had any problem matching levels (I use a Pod HD500 and before that a Vetta II). Simply step on a footswitch and the models change, levels preset to wherever I have programmed them... easy!

OK

brokenrecord.jpg

I tried my jtv side by side with a 300, my rsultados were acustiscos of the 300 are really better, especially martins , And I can not understand the reason that, since the jtv should be an evolution of previous models

My biggest hope is in the workbench software that you will be able to adjust string

volume for each string in each model and save it. That would be great.

Thanks

Would be nice, but I think the string volume thing is for calibration purposes only, not to actually customize your tone.

A picture of a broken record is completely the wrong response. These forums exist for us to have a voice to a company we have purchased from and continue to support and get excited about. Fanboys who get their little feelings hurt when we complain are not helpful to the conversation. Similarly, our complaints are useless if we're being hateful.

So to try and actually be productive here - let me say it this way... I totally dig my JTV and lots of other Line 6 products I have purchased over the years. I have so much faith in L6 (they've raised their own standards...that's a good thing), that I think they can do much better when it comes to acoustic modeling and I would love for them to hear my voice in asking that they keep trying to do just that.
