Using My Dt25 Via L6 Link With Line 6 Pa Set Up...

Recommended Posts

Apologies all around if this has been covered, but I have a question regarding L6 linkage..

I bought the guitar dream rig of DT25, HD500, and JTV59 just before I took seriously the prospect of buying another PA that did not have NEXO on the badge..

Anyway, I am really sold on the Stagescape/StageSource set up... I am going to purchase the Stagescape mixer and 2 L3M's this summer...

I am a solo artist who plays outside venues (Large Hotels).. I use backing tracks that I create and it sounds like a proper band.. I currently use a NEXO PS10 PA, which sounds great all the time and I am playing my guitar through the computer via Logic 9...

I have wanted to put the DT and the HD500 into the show and have even midi'ed guitar changes via Logic on some songs, but the rig is in the basement as I don't have the control I need for the volume and settings that my guitar through Logic affords me... It's a trade off, as the sounds via Logic a "good enough" so to speak, I am sick because the sounds are so much better through the DT25/HD.... Plus there's the thing of lugging the amp around with an already crowded wire crazy set up and gear trolley.. I guess I'm being lazy, but that's another story..

I am in the process of building a studio in my Garage and I want to retire the NEXO system to be my studio rig as I am getting a bit tired of the wires etc, which is why I am going with the LINE6 solution...

My question is will I derive any benefit from Linking All of my Line 6 stuff via L6 link with special interest given to the DT25/HD500 (Will I be able to control the amp volume from the Board rather than turning around etc? ( Yes, I use a volume pedal, but it's not an ideal solution for me) Further, will the amp be redundant through the STAGESOURCE set up? Anyway, what it boils down to is what are the benefits, if any of having everything in my arsenal being LINE6..

Thanks for listening and sorry for the long post...

Seems odd that no-one has responded to your question... unless it is because they don't have your specific setup and planned addition so can't answer definitively.

I'll try to add what I can:

As far as the M20d mixer goes, the L6Link it is equipped with is an OUTPUT only.

For L3m/t L3s and L2m/t speakers each has an L6Link IN and OUT but ONLY ONE OF EACH

So, whilst your HD500 has L6Link, you cannot connect it to the M20d using L6Link. In this instance the purpose of L6Link would be to connect direct to a stagesource or other L6Link INPUT equipped speaker/device

As such, you would connect your HD500 to the M20d using the balanced L/R XLR outs into two channels of the M20d

If I've misunderstood your question, I'll apologise now!

No need to apologise... it's often easier if we have the background for the question to get a handle on what you're asking.

I'm sure there must be guitarists here who have the DreamRig and the DreamStage who will be better placed to answer your question more fully, perhaps with full example schematic connections!

as good as the DT is, for what you propose it is not needed... I think you would be better served running full amp models in your POD just through the L3's and blending with your backing tracks... Less to lug around and configure, easier to control, should sound just as good, all L6 linked...

Good news is, your rig will be easy to scale up or down according to the specifics of the gig. The DT25 does sound awesome, I love mine. I had the HD500 for four years before I got the DT, and it's like night and day! Overall, I pretty much have the same gear you mentioned - JTV59, HD500, M20d and two L2t's.

One thing to consider, as you contemplate your purchase this summer: I went with the L2t's for the simple reason, that for $100 more per speaker, you can do a very esy setup, when you are going with no outboard mixer version of the rig, using just the two L2t's since they have onboard mixers in each speaker. The L2m's are the same power, the L2t's just have the onboard mixer in each, and when you two-way L6Link them together (if not using M20d), then both of the L2t mixers are in play, and they auto configure as a stereo pair. In your case, that could be quite useful. Credit where it's due, to Ron Marton for mentioning that to me before I made the leap to buy! Here are the two links he pointed me toward; some

Small Stage Setup On A Budget

Confused L2t V L2m

That being said, I'm using JTV59, HD500, DT25, two L2t's and an M20d. My band is still in the "getting it together" stage, no gigs just yet. We use the two L2's as floor monitors when we rehearse;  two guitars, electric bass, and drum kit.

I was having issues just running my HD500 direct prior to getting the StageSource/StageScape gear, so I run the XLR out from the DT25 to the M20d for the multi-track recording, we mostly just run vocals through the two L2t's for monitor purposes.

Gentleman, unbelievably helpful...

Radatats, you make an excellent point in going without the DT25.. It is heavy.. There's the other thing of the wife seeing it sitting around, not being used and me getting asked the inevitable, "What the hell did you buy it for?" that wives seem to ask with regard to music gear... I am taking your suggestion onboard...

ColonelForbin, you mention the L2T's and I thought about them, but was told that for my sound the bass speaker would probably be needed, however, if I went with the L3T's the extra 10's would compensate.. Am I making sense...

In any case it seems that --however sad-- that all the Line 6 items cannot be linked together, as I had hoped.. I'm still sold on the StageSource set up, however..

Thanks again to you all..

Yeah, that makes sense - I didn't have a good sense of scale until I saw them all in a Guitar Center. The L3S (subs) are *really* big, much larger footprint that the L2t and L3t. I have read that people are using L3t as a bass amp actually; there is a cool article on the Line6 news section about bassist Abraham Laboriel, Sr using one:

I haven't pumped alot of real low end through my L2t's, just a touch of bass guitar DI and kick drum mic when we rehearse.
