What Happened To Tarcase?

Hey there, anyone remember Tarcase? I remember them building custom plywood, pretty nice/heavy duty cases for the X3Live, and apparently also for the HD500.

I can't seem to find them anymore online or on eBay or anything.

Though, I've found someone selling a used HD500 Tarcase on Craiglist locally, was debating if I should go that route, vs. the $60 Line6 soft-side carry case.

I also used to have a Rondo case back in the day for my X3L, but I needed to do a fair amount of work to line the lid with foam and do it up with velcro.

Thoughts? Anyone have any other awesome ideas, opinions, or directions to point me in>?

Thanks!! :)

Just an FYI, the soft carry case is convenient, but ridiculously tight. Takes some doing to shoehorn the thing in there.

Yeah, it was funny - I was one click away from ordering the L6 brand carry bag, and held off on it. $60, seems ok, but not a great price for what it is. I happened to search craigslist and found a guy selling his used Tarcase for the HD500 - he switched up the HD rack unit.

Easy decision - $60 for a "just ok" soft case new, or $100 for a used, but nicely constructed, custom built, plywood, carpeted hard case with lift off lid that functions as the floorboard - and it has space to the right of it for an external expression pedal (just ordered the Line 6 specific Mission Engineering expression pedal) and it has space behind the HD500 for cabling, power, etc..

Also found this photo online; lots of case! Look at that thing, friggin' monster...

But I like it, looks sturdy, and good bad or otherwise, the guy who used to build them is nowhere to be found! I hate having to roll up the power supply, unplug all the cables, an I don't like putting breakable gear in soft cases.

Snagged that Tarcase from the craigslist guy after work yesterday! Really nice, definitely somewhat oversized; but I like that the back part of the floorboard portion of the case protects the back side of the HD500, especially protecting the cables coming out of it from being kicked or stepped on. Fits the HD500 like a glove, really well constructed. I hope the guy who was making these is still around! Well worth the $$. The guy who sold it to me took really good care of it, and the carpet held up extremely well.

Here's a couple links to some photos I took; my cat took to it straight away, I will have to keep this thing away from the cats before they turn it into a scratching post!

I just need to velcro or mount the Mission expression pedal in the side slot. Still assembling the Pedaltrain board and waiting on two more Keeley pedals that are on order, but since they are newer pedals, I think they are still building them! Looking forward to being able to record some sound samples once it's all rigged up together.

As a side note, the Pedaltrain pedalboard comes with mounting brackets to attach a Voodoo Lab power supply to the underside of the board. It fits perfectly, and the power plugs line up perfectly with the existing holes in the back of the Pedaltrain. I found a sweet video on YouTube, this guy lays it out and walks through the process, of mounting the brackets on to the Voodoo Lab, and then drilling holes into the metal frame of the Pedaltrain board, and what not. Pictures worth a thousand words, so I wonder how many words it takes to sum up a video? :)

Cheers!

Here is the how-to video for mounting the Voodoo Lab power supply under the Pedaltrain:
