So what is with the blow out prices?

Recommended Posts

Seems all the dealers and eBay are selling 59, 69 and 79 are bargain basement prices. I see them all over the place for $799 and under. Any ideas? New models coming or sales have peaked and they are reducing inventory? Looks like some good deals can be had right now.

Well I see the Line 6 forums is still the place were trolls hang out. I haven't posted here in a long time as it is usually a waste of time. Typo trolls, bye!

So things never change and this is one of them. This is why I gave up on this forum and Line 6 in general.

it was all good natured and speculative...

i assure you that most of these guys knew what you meant and were simply "daydreaming"/having a little fun about the possibility that you knew something they didn't.

I wouldn't consider any of the responders here amongst the trolls that occasionally stop by....

Yeah, Please don't abuse the term "troll" in place of subtle off topic talk. None of use really know why the prices might be dropping, There was nothing I could reply to in your post besides your typo or whatever, and it was a joke, not hostile.

Jokes aside, the OP had a good question. Does anyone know the answer?

Nobody here knows. Presumably Line 6 product managers know, but they won't say anything about that. Any speculation you see here is just that, and your guess is as good as theirs.

The fact that the question can't be answered here (at least not with any validity) probably contributed to the joking.

Some of the cut price JTVs being offered are just old stock being cleared. I bought a JTV69 for about 30% less than normal retail from a reputable site who were also selling the same model at full price. When it turned up I checked it over and it was in perfect condition, the only two things I noted were that it had firmware v1.71 installed and it's serial number revealed it was a 2011 model. Hence my belief it was simply old stock being sold off, I can't think of any other reason why it would be sold at such a discount. It was not scratch and dent or B grade, as the same site had sold a batch of those earlier and had clearly labelled them as such, this was brand new but reduced price.

It seems (at least to me), that the "benchmark" of the JTV pricing is the JTV59 in Tobacco. While the other styles / finishes seem to vary alot in price, that one typically stays right at $1500. I got lucky - got mine when it was on sale back in February; Guitar Center had the sale, and Zzounds did a price match for me - was $1,071.18. I haven't seen them at that price since. (I am still on the payment plan for that particular impulse buy! But I must say, really happy with the guitar, the rig has come a long way since I added the JTV and DT25 to my HD500.

My serial number indicates mine was built in March 2012, for reference, in terms of sales and/or build date.

How do the new JTV-69's address this issue compared to the older JTV-69?

I thought they did something to clog the route to the electronics better. It's a serious hazard for short circuiting to happen. I just cleaned out my 600 for fret debris causing grounding static within the signal every 10 seconds, so it's a realistic scenario.

Yes Indeed !

One thing I experience is when using Variax Mode, my JTV-69 (which is my 3rd after 3 RMA returns back in 2012) sounds much better than my 2010 1st release Restock JTV-59. On my JTV-59 the Variax Modeling output is 20% lower volume compared to my newer JTV-69 , which impacts the gain of everything down stream  (Amp Distortion, Tone etc), and no amount of twiddling the Workbench HD Edit solves this. (Yes my String levels in Workbench HD are on "10"

Also when I tried the HD 2.0 FW last year, the new Tele Full HB Model sounded like straight clean piezos - with HD 2.10 it finally sounds like a Johnny Lang Tele.
I have the orignal Variax Schematic  - but no access to the Tyler Variax schematic.
I want to dive in and make a schematic of the mag PU circuit and its associated final output path - and compare the JTV-59 to the JTV-69  - they each sound very different here with measurable different voltage output levels  - its not simply due to the different physical characteristics of the wood or scale length. It could be related to the very different style of piezo saddles on each though (hmm?)

I suspect upon review of the schematic, there is a final output mix resistor network circuit on the internal electronics   - perhaps the resistor values used there  have changed over the years, between intial 2010 Variax release compared to what they now use today on their 2014 Variax DSP board BOM (bill of materials). This might explain why some dealers are selling older "NOS" Tyler Variaxs for $799 - its cheaper for Line6 to inform dealers to sell off their older inventory at a discount  - rather than do RMAs for every guitar and have a Line 6 Technician swap the values on 3 internal surface mount resistors on the DSP board.

Hey, I don't know if this is actually true or not but you've got me convinced. Makes perfect sense.

  • 3 weeks later...

Neck issues were fixed many moons ago.  The bridge was changed too on the 69.  The cables from the floating bridge to the main board are different.  The original had problems that made the trem hang up.  My 2012 JTV has all of those fixes.

Hi Charlie,

how can you tell, that those issues are fixed? Is there a date afte that the issues were fixed?

I'll receive a JTV-69s to try next week and I'm willing to keep it if I like it. The serial starts with 1208 so it's build in August 2012.

The only thing it has is a mark in the finish where the wood shines through under the clear finish - It looks almost like a relic. But doesn't bother me if everything else is OK.

Thanks

in other words... no "S" models ever had the neck or bridge issues that the early 69's had

Thanks for the anser Zap - I have the JTV-69s now here for testing - I really like it. Like the real pickups even more than the models. I think I might keep it, since it is a very flexible solution together with my POD HD500.

Consider me a new Varix user ;-)
