Recording interface recommendations

I'm looking to doing some recording for my band. I would like to mic the drums up with one on each drum and two overheads. So I need at least 7 inputs to the DAW (Mixcraft 6). Up to this point I've just used  my  POD as the interface as the two inputs were enough for me, work fantastic for the guitars and vocals. But 2 ain't gonna cover it unless I mixed down the drums with external mixer which I really don't want to do; I would like to have the change to EQ each drum to get the best sound, plus the stereo field options too!

Anyway, I'm looking to see if anyone has any recommendations on 7 or above input interface that will not break the $$$. I figure I'm in the 500-700 ranger already just to get that many inputs over usb and/or firewire.

Try Ableton 8 for free. I've been using this since it was Ableton 5 but it's only me recording multi tracks out of my X3 Pro and HD500. Now they have Ableton 9. There are probably more than a few programs (like pro tools, etc.) out there that do this, although I haven't tried any others.

Line 6 used to manufacture an 8-input audio interface - the Toneport UX8. It was a great device; don't know why it was discontinued. If you can find a used one it would be a good and cost-effective solution.

Good idea, the UX8 would fit the bill.

I'll have to check into that one. Didn't know they made one with that many inputs.
