Volume drop-off when using 1/4 input into my HD Pro

Recommended Posts

Hello folks,

When I plugged my JTV-69s guitar into my POD HD Pro using the 1/4 cable, the volume level drop-offs to about 20% compare to when I'm using the VDI cable.

Does anybody else experiencing a volume drop-off when using the 1/4 input on your POD HD devices instead of using the VDI cable input?

Thanks.

They are two totally different signal paths.  Not surprising that they are not matched.  With the 1/4 inch, the D/A is in the JTV.  WIth the VDI, it's in the Pod.

I wonder if there is a way to get the volumes close to the same level.  It's not that big of a deal but sometimes I use the 1/4 cable when I need to have more distance from my POD HD Pro.  I don't have a longer VDI cable, yet.

This. When using a VDI it sends the digital signal to the pod. The 1/4 uses a D/A so it probably will be inconsistent. Just stick to one signal unless you honestly have to use 1/4.

Thanks.  Now I'm more motivated to get a longer VDI cable :)

Gharlie, with 1/4" AD takes place @POD (Check the diagram @13:03 on the supplied link)

With VDI AD takes place @the piezos.

Both cases  DA is done @POD's output.

Check the diagram @14:07 on the foll link:

A/D is done when the piezo signal goes into the DSP.

D/A happens before the 1/4 output. In a VDI it happens before the POD's output.

assuming the Variax mode is deactivated via the "Guitar Model Selector" and the JTV is in mags mode,

since mags can be used WITHOUT battery, there is NO AD conversion at all, the signal goes out thru the JTV 1/4" analogue, it continues thru the POD's 1/4" guitar input analogue and it is AD converted INSIDE the POD.

if the JTV is in variax mode, AD is done as per clay-man's post.

then if going out thru the JTV 1/4" jack,  there is nother DA.

if it goes VDI there is no extra conversion, it goes digital.
