Spider V Coming Soon?

Recommended Posts

My Spider IV 75 has performed admirably for the last few years but I'm getting the itch for something new. Is the new Spider V coming anytime soon? Does anyone have any info about it being developed or what features might be included?

I would guess .... and this is really a wild assumption on my part with nothing but intuition to run on .... that the Spider Line is done? I think it is the POD and DT Amps for Line 6 now? (again, pure speculation on my part).

I have a Spider IV 120 (practice amp), Spider Valve 212 MKII (great amp but has become a backup option now) and a DT25 Head/Cab which I really love (coupled with a HD500).

So ... just FYI, have a look into the DT amps and see what you think? More $ for sure, but killer sound. The downside of course, (aside form the cost), is that they don't come loaded with efx like the Spiders. One has to admit that the price point on the Spider IV's was pretty remarkable.

Thanks for the replies!

Zap, I hadn't thought of it but I guess that makes sense. The guitar amp business is pretty cutthroat and letting any details out early could give the competition an advantage. I'd just like to know if it's even a product that's in the works.

But, I can understand why they can't do that either. Wouldn't want people to stop buying the remaining stock in favor of waiting for the new model to hit the stores.

Geppert, That would certainly be a strange turn of events. To have the spider line go through four versions and become the #1 selling amps in the country only to be discontinued completely? To cut off the stream of revenue that selling millions of those amps brought in and focus on higher end more expensive model lines that will sell fewer? Doesn't seem to make good business sense and I have a hard time believing that's the case. But, who knows? However, if true, I can certainly believe that Fender, Peavey, and a few other modeling amp makers would be pretty happy to hear it!

Maybe L6 feels they've taken the Spider line as far as it can go and until some significant technological advance comes along they will just leave them where they are. How long was it between the releases of the different Spider series I-IV?

I hope you're right.

If the spider V is indeed in the works right now, it'll be interesting to see what kind of changes there'll be between the IV and the V. Hopefully, the most significant change will be further improving sound quality.

IF...there is to be a spider 5...my biggest gripe with the spider 4 is that i dont find it very user friendly.

I have had mine 18 months and know my way around the settings now but it has taken me that long to get into the comfort zone with the controls.if it was made more user friendly,it would be a hit for sure

but...its still a freakin good amp in spider 4 guise.i prefer to create my own sound patches though rather than use the presets

With the NAMM show kicking off tomorrow I thought I'd resurrect this old thread and see if there is any renewed speculation.

It may be idle talk but there was a comment on this video that L6 will be announcing a new amp at the show...

Does anyone have inside knowledge they'd like to share?

Would be cool. Here I am on my 15 watt Spider iv. It is filmed usuing a BlackBerry Playbook tablet and that is all. The website and small condenser mic have added a few artifacts to what I consider a killer tone I have dialed in on the little amp.

I also own its big brother the SpiderValve HD100 mkii but have yet to recreate such a good tone on it as I have on the practice amp. Albeit I haven't really tried and don't use the HD very much as I'm saving it to rock out on when I'm 90.

Make sure to use some decent headphones like Sony MDR-7506 or similar AKG, Sennheiser cans so it sounds fairly decent. Remember the rudimentary recording process though so expectations aren't set too high. Rock on Line Sixers!

  • 1 year later...

Finally! I think I've had my Spider IV for 5 years? 6 years? I'd have to check when it first was released.

I've been through many modelers but my IV has always been there. (That and a Flextone III....)

It mentions that we can choose cabs on the new Spider V (yay!) so now we have to find out what amps are modeled. If anyone finds any additional details, please let us know.

I hope they've got an improved uni-vibe model...

Was just released! Looks pretty cool, has a lot of great features and is aesthetically pleasing and I'm sure sounds fairly danged good. Just be aware the 30 watt 1x10" & 60 watt 1x12" combo models do not have line outs which to me is a bit of a disappointment.

The intro page only shows combo amps, no separate head/cabinets.

I wonder if plugging in headphones (assume they have headphone jacks) still cuts off the speaker.

The 'buy now' link points you to the regular places (Guitar Center), but GC has nothing on its web site.  I noticed the Spider IVs are $100 or more off regular price, though.

All I know is that the lame promo is getting absolutely hammered on Youtube and as everyone knows in this day and age of the internet and social media bad news spreads like wildfire,in an instant.

No need to feel bad about pulling a horribly conceived video with atrocious audio quality, the actors have been paid and all others involved.

Get some greasy long-haired axe-grinder with some decent chops that is kicking around your Calabasas headquarters and let him whail on it for two minutes, film it and release it. It will be heads and tails over that "Thing" you released early this morning.

I'm sure the product is amazing and I liked some of the sound clips of it on the Line 6 website so don't think I'm here to slag the new cool Spider V. I'm here to tell you your promo video sucks, big time, and is making a laughing stock of Line 6. After the awesome success of the Helix wouldn't we want to see that for the new line of Spider amps?

My thoughts from the peanut gallery, Cheers .... Hey where's a rockin' smiley face/emoticon?

Personally, I think they should probably just disable the comments on the video, not delete the video. There will always be negative comments, regardless of the quality of the demo. It's the nature of YouTube.

People have been making fun of the Spider amps, well, ever since I can remember. Line 6 has still sold something like 2 million of them. These amps aren't made for tone connoisseurs... They're made for people just starting, as a practice amp, etc. Not that they can't sound good or even great, but I think the point is that a large number of people playing them aren't even at the place where are thinking in those terms.

The sound quality of the SpiderValve mkii video featuring Richard Fortus made by Line 6 was one of the deciding factors for me in buying the amp. The audio was pristine and the playing of course was top notch. I'm sure Line 6 will have some great demo's of the Spider V in the very near future, if not already completed and ready to go, I'm just saying that "First look" is pretty brutal :)

Did you listen to the sound samples on the product page?

Yes I did thanks. I liked at least 6 out of 10 or something like that so that's really good as far as factory presets have always been, with any company or product I've tried.

Just for the record, I didn't make any comments on the actual promo video and won't be. It is slightly amusing though I gotta admit, in a morbid sorta way.
