Just for fun before work this morning I plugged my HD500( set to combo return) into the effect return of my 1982 Marshall JCM800 combo.I usually play my HD through FRFR or an Atomic Reactor wedge. It sounded and felt amazing! WOW!!! I have played many other modellers this way going back to my old Digitech RP-1. I highly recommend anyone with a good well maintained tube amp try this.I may gig it this way this week!

I do the same thing but it's set to Studio Direct output - not that one is better than the other.  The different settings are just different EQ curves.  I have a JCM900 into a 4x12 cab.  Been gigging out with this for about 4 years.  I actually have a second JCM900 and cab and do stereo and place them on opposite sides of the stage.  I run a Delay with the left output set to 20ms delay that feeds the second amp.

Yeah, I like the combo. Direct is very bright to my ears and possibly the cause of some critisms.

The Combo is lower in volume and very bright unless you lower the high shelf and focus.

It ends up lower in vol and with the focus around 200 or hz less brittle sounding thru my Valvestate 2040.
