Will a spider IV 15 work well with a POD HD500?

I live under the roof, and right now, during the summer heat waves, it's becoming a bit unbearable. (Forget about playing the guitar, just BEING here is unbearable!) I was thinking about taking my setup someplace cooler, like the basement. The trouble is there's little space in there and so I cannot take my entire setup.

I was wondering what I could do on a budget (given that this is mostly a temporary solution for the summer).

I read some good reviews about the little Spider (the little one's price is also pretty neat), and I was wondering if it'd work well with my POD. What do you think? If not the Spider, then what else should I look for?

Budget-wise for the HD I would just pick up a small SS 1x12 combo that had an FX loop - you should be able to score one used pretty cheap. Marshall, Peavey the usual suspects.

The Spider IV while a neat lil amp does not have an FX loop and with the HD you really don't need any of its effects and modeling.

or just an active monitor will work fine.  Try to match what you are using currently, ie. if you are using FX loop of big amp go with BillBee's idea, or if you are using FRFR big rig, stick to FRFR small rig.  That way you won't have to build totally different patches...

Of course there's always the option of good headphones...

But to your original question, the Spider 15 is not a good option for the POD HD500... no FX loop and it really doesn't work well in this setup...

How loud do you want to go?  As GearHead suggest, maybe an active monitor or PA speaker will work fine for you.  Depending on what you have plugging your HD500 into, you may need to adjust all your patches accordingly.

It doesn't have to be loud. Like I wrote - it's a temporary solution.

Given the replies, I'm thinking headphones might have to be enough (of course finding a decent pair is also a feat ;P). Finding an amp with an FX loop for the price of a small Spider also seems like an accomplishment... ;-)

BTW... Just curious now, but the Spider has an Aux input... Wouldn't that work to bypass the amps processing?

I've never tried that but I guess you could run your POD with a TRS stereo cable and an adapter into the CD/MP3 jack and just use it as a power amp.  I have no idea how well it would work and personally, I would go with a decent set of headphones.  I have the Sure SRH440 and even though they are not high impedance they sound great and fit well and about $100 everywhere.  And you will probably get more use out of them in the long run...
