the number of times we’ve seen units become inoperable because of a break in the data stream during the installation of the Vetta firmware, we feel it is best to remove the update from our website. Any circumstances that require the firmware to be reinstalled should be referred to our support staff via support ticket or phone call. Our team can be contacted at www.Line6.com/support.

yes, but you will need to request the firmware from support via support ticket.

Is this process still able to be completed by the end user? I am experiencing some problems with my user channels and am about to sell the unit. I would like to re-flash it to factory for the new owner. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I've just come off a chat with line6 customer support, where i told them my vetta needed the 2.50 update. i've been told that the update is no longer available, and that the line6 support don't have access to a copy of it.

So now I'm left with a bricked coffee table that blinks.

has ANYONE a copy of the 2.5 update for a vetta II Combo.

please email to polmacanraoi@gmail.com

I have a copy of 2.5 folks so message me.

ALSO NEED SOME HELP; HAVE TWO VETTAS:

1. With 2.03 firmware and all my patches backed up - no action required.

2.  New one acquired today with 2.5 and Armin's toolkit and have read horror stories about freezes when editing patches.  This seems to be when you introduce a patch with an Armin cab in but I do not wish to brick my "new" Vetta.  All my patches on Vetta 1 are non Armin patches and are bulk backed up.  It would appear from my reading they should be fine to load but am unsure.  Also it appears that Line 6 withdrawing all the firmware from the site means that Monkey cannot help with a firmware reinstall.  It also appears Edit 3 and Armin's toolkit produce freezes.  Need some experienced advice as to which way to move please.

Thanks,

Mike.

Hey my man - not a vetta user/owner but can't L6 Monkey do the "offline" reflash like one can do with the Pods?

My understanding was too many people bricked their Vettas during failed reflashings - I am thinking it is probably the midi/usb cable, as a comm issue always pops up for the old Pod 2.0s which need them.

Hi all,  The history;

I had my vetta2 for years with a 2.50 Firmware, started having patch problems on night so I backed them up the next day after I fixed them all.  Then weeks later I turned the amp on and it freaked out and locked up.  After some researching I found out it has a 3 volt battery.  I went inside and metered it and it only has 0.4 volts.   I put a socket in its place and put a new battery in.  I have this file from the latest upgrade on my PC called "VettaCombo_2_50.vtf"  Now since Monkey no longer works, I have no way to load this file.  I did buy the UNO MIDI device years ago for the upgrade as suggested.

I did put a ticket in to see if Line6 can help, still waiting for the response.

What I need;

I wanted to check on this board for anybody who has the vetta combo 2.50 file in .syx format so I can use a Syx download tool.  This is the best amp and the long board has the best access to FXs and patches.

Them saying that they don't have it has to be complete and utter BS. Of course they have it. It's just a computer file for pity sake and not a large one at that..

I concur up to the bit about giving you a new amp. They simply can't get some of the parts anymore to even build one because those parts have been discontinued by the makers, like the DSPs for example. However not providing what support they can is tantamount to taking aim at your own foot with a 45  and pulling the trigger, marketing wise. It simply boils down to an attitude problem and that much can't be forgiven or ever ignored.

personally, i feel that line6 should either remedy this, or allow their end users to send back their vettas, and line6 provide a brand new amp...

this type of microsoft-ish way of just deserting their customers would deter me from buying another line6 product ever again

Hi all,  I Finally figured out how to load the VettaComba_2_50_vtf file.

I had to put a Windows XP computer back together out of five trashed systems, and load the Monkey 1.16 for the Archive download page at Line6.com.  I used the UNO midi device with the correct drivers recommended by line6 back in 2009.   The Monkey still would not see the vetta but had a tab that allowed me to select a local .vtf file upload and sent it out midi to the vetta.

The line6 Monkey 1.16 popped up the step by step procedure and in 30 minutes I was up and running.

Later versions of Monkey in Windows7 and Windows8 will not have the local file select option so you will not be able to do this, I went back to 1.36.  AND!!!!!     since the vetta is brain dead, no Monkey or Line6Edite will ever see it.

Now since my Vetta Combo is fully function and has a new 3 volt battery,  I dumped all the Syx files for backup so in 8 to 10 years I have to change the battery again, I will not have to depend on the .vtf file.  Plus when changing the battery use a snap socket for a 2032 battery.  I pulled one off an old AMD motherboard and it lined up just right.

vetta_250.syx

Vetta_250_models.syx

Vetta_250_factory.syx

I used the tool Borne's SendSX to build and load these files.   Let me know if you need them by this blog.

PS:  Line6 will have the file VettaCombo_2_50.vtf to Email but I never got a good answer on the Monkey issue, I had to hope that my idea was going to work for me.

Glad to hear you got your amp back.

I guess I'd never have seen your problem since I've stayed with XP all along. For email and a few message boards it's enough so no need to trade up to a whole new set of problems, which every new OS from MS seems to be. As soon as they finally get one OS fixed up, they dump that one and start all over again and do it all over again with a new set of endless problems and patches. LOL

I've watched this cycle repeat over and over again from the DOS days so by now I know how they work.

It's very reminiscent of how Washington and our political system works or doesn't as the case may be.

Vetta I or Vetta II 2.5 stock firmware in .syx format is here for you now. Email me at vetta125@comcast.net for the file and if you need help loading it. I wont charge you for the repair such as a service center would... as an option suggested by line6. Finally, play your amp instead of just staring at it or using it as a coffee table! LOL!!

Just got myself a Vetta combo. Seems that it has software version 1.10 in it. I tried to contact Line6 Edit, but no luck. So it seems i need that firmware update, eh?

Please, explain this process like you'd explain it to a donkey (as i am).

And before this and that. MIDI via M-Audio 1010 works fine with my DT25, so there's nothing wrong in that. (unless that m-audio's gadget is the only possible interface in whole world).

Hi

I've been having "problems" with my Veta II Combo as well; and by "problems" I mean "I turn on the amp and all I get is the 2 display screens lit up solid orange and thats it."

I've searched as many variations of "Line 6 Vetta II Problem" and it seems like for some reason, it has to do with the firmware - specifically, that the firmware required to make this... well... a Line 6 Vetta II Combo, isn't there. Its like putting a PC together and not installing any OS. The thing is, due to my lack of tech-savviness, I tend to be very very careful with what I do, should I need to do it.

I purchased my Vetta II (and the FBV Shortboard) new, back in 2006. Since then I have used it exclusively at my home studio, and I've taken very good care of it, as I do with all my other equipment. It never left the house and the only time it moved, was when I literally moved it a couple of inches to one side of the new console I had purchased. I've made extensive - maybe even exclusive - use of the DI's for recording, since I had to record a lot threat the night.

Of all things, I never worried about the amp. However that al changed a couple of weeks back (maybe like 2+months ago):  I plugged my guitar in, just as I had done countless times, except this time I decided to restore the amp to factory settings first. I followed everything to a T. It should have worked and it didnt. I am now left with, like a poster before me said, a coffee table with lights. Nothing works. I've of course re-read the manual over and over, gone online trying to find something, hooked the amp to midi, got the latest version of Monkey/Edit etc.... nothing works. I wanted to make sure I did all that before I posted this.

I need to know if this can be fixed. Can I get the firmware? If so, how - specifically - can I do that? I really loved that amp. I bought the first generation POD Line 6 released. I sold it only because the 2.0 came out and I bought that as well. I then purchased the XT Live, and finally, after a *long* time spent saving up etc, I got the Vetta II, and I never intended to buy another amp again, because - simply put - this amp had everything I needed. I spent countless hours over the years tweaking my sound, experimenting with new sounds, and I recorded 2 albums with that amp alone for every single guitar part. I'm not bragging or anything, I'm just depressed over this. I'd get a kick out of people telling me how modelling amps suck, whilst listening to one of my tracks, thinking its a JCM800 mic'd up with an SM58. Yeah its subjective, but thats how much I love this amp and had no good reason to add to it. Then I saw the Helix. I love the concept. I would gladly get one. Now, I just don't know. If this could happen to my amp, and its completely unfixable, that could happen to the Helix.

I also want to state that this post is not intended to offend anyone here, or at Line 6 etc. If I come across that way, I sincerely apologise. I *want* to believe in this company and the products they make. But this is really driving me crazy. Also - and I get it, it sounds cheesy but I'm sure some will identify - but when I say I'm depressed, I really am. At not being able to play or record guitar. There are other personal matters in my life that are anything but positive. Playing music is the way I stay alive and sane. So to me, this amounts to much more than a broken amp. Hopefully that makes sense.

From what Ive been reading on the forums etc, it seems like I'm really not going to be able to remedy this situation. I don't usually write online on forums and certainly not to this extent. I just figured that I'd already tried everything but this - this post - and so here I am, trying my best. Still hoping, fingers crossed, but at the same time, I almost don't even want to post this. I'm just sad.

If anyone can help me resolve this, if anyone has any advice, anything at all relating to this subject, I'd *really* appreciate it. I'm not a wealthy person and when my one and only amp breaks down, I can't just go get a replacement without months of saving - and thats being optimistic. Also if it helps, I'm using a Mac Pro running OS X (10.10.3). The MIDI interface is a MOTU FastLane USB. Also, I live outside of the US.

Thanks for your time,

Trevor

Could this be that battery issue? I'm told that there is a back up battery in it. Guess it's built before flash memory times.

However being not capable to fix this firmware issue is not good. And if this is something that shows how it is going to be in the future, i'm not happy at all.

If the amp isn't saving patches then the battery is likely bad. If it does then the battery is likely OK.

Hi!

I've misplaced my backups of the Vetta updates, or they are only on now-unreadable DVD's... I'd love to get the 2.50 .syx -files. Vetta125 -please? I sent you a pm.

I need to reflash my Vetta II Combo because of the "...Bad Model Default..." :/

I am shocked and surpassed that the line 6 team does not reply to any of these questions. Like Apple, you never know what is going to happen. Unlike Apple whom does eventually take care of the issue, Line 6 needs to work a bit harder to satisfy their customers because it real easy to leave to another brand and never come back. Like the rest on this site, we purchased the Vetta head because we were told that updates would be supportive for as long as the product was on the market.

I fully realize that the Vetta has been off the market for a long while. However, that is still no excuse for Line6 not to have file support on their web site so that owners could keep their beloved amps ticking along as long as they could. It's your own fault for building such a great, well made amp in the Vetta and hot having anything of equal quality in your current product line. It would cost Line6 nothing to have all the last software and maintenance documentation on your web site. It does however cost you not to have it by generating ill will toward your brand in the market place. I'm not saying you should continue to offer repair service, that much I do understand as a few of the parts, the Coldfire processor and Sharc DSPs principally are obsolete and unavailable. I'm just saying that you should do your utmost to help folks keep their amps alive on their own and having a few files available for download on your site simply isn't a whole lot. In my view the hard line you've drawn if anything is likely costing you new equipment sales. If nothing else, it just seems to be a mean and a poor attitude toward your customers. While that's unfortunate, it's also completely unnecessary as you have everything at your disposal to immediately remedy it. Remember the market will continue to live but companies always manage to destroy themselves. They aren't killed by the competition, the marketplace or economics, those or just excuses, they always kill themselves. Usually the mechanisms of self destruction are arrogance, greed and selfishness, sometimes accompanied by a measure of sloth. Ask yourself, what is the real cost to Line6 of putting the files up on the website? I think we all already know the answer. What none of us can accurately gauge is what it's costing Line6 not to.

clearly there was a cost... if you read the statement that was marked as answered....

many users were damaging their amps by improperly flashing....

the statement also says that they would make it available by contacting support...

perhaps they just want to go over a checklist of things first and save you some potential trouble....?

or i suppose we could assume the worst instead....

Yeah I saw the bit about people having trouble with upgrading the firmware. However most people do it with no trouble, for one I did. There are other users out there who are willing to help people get though it but they have to have access to the files. Right now they are having to get the stuff from other users like myself so Line6 not having it available on their site really isn't stopping anything.

Say what you will but I well know that server space costs next to nothing, especially when you consider how much bad PR Line6 is gleaning from not having the stuff up there. Trust me, it's a bad decision over the long haul. Just ask any politician, perception is everything. I would much rather see Line6 do well.

Hi everyone,

I have a Vetta 2 head and as all of you have found Line 6 is completely unhelpful when it comes to any firmware updates or reflashes. So this is what my amp is doing andy help, comments, or suggestions are extremely helpful.

It turns on fine, it makes sound (although it doesn't sound completely right since this has started) but none of the patches are editable and I can't switch the screen with the scroll wheel to get to the "soft reset" option. When I push the "edit" button to edit a preset the screen blinks to the edit screen then goes back to the preset screen. I'm pretty sure there's something wrong with the firmware and want to reflash the amp but I can't get the firmware and can't edit any tones. Kinda defeats the purpose of the amp.

As I said before any help, suggestions, or comments are greatly appreciated. Thanks,

Hello,

I have had my own website for years, and I am willing to make a page and host all the Line6 files for everyone.

I recently purchased a used Vetta II HD head, and it works fine.  I even tried the Variax input, that also works great.

My amp came with Firmware 2.11, and I want to upgrade to the latest IF I can then use Spider Edit.  Now, Monkey sees the amp when I connect to the UNO-2-USB device, it detects it on it's own.  However, I do not get the firmware update, and I have read here why this happens.

If updating my firmware will allow me to use the editor, then I will do it.  If I risk losing stability, I might just not update.  I really want to be able to create and trade patches.

I work in IT, so I have updated firmware many times, on anything from video cards, SCSI controllers, and motherboards.  I have multiple UPS devices, so I can keep the PC and the AMP on their own speerate 1500 UPS while the updates happens.  I would not try to update during a rain or wind storm.

The problem I have is Monkey sees the Vetta Head with the UNO, but Line6 edit see it too, but then times out and I cannot use the editor.

My domain is easy to remember:   www.davelikesbeer.com

BOOYAH!

I joined the Facebook VETTA group, they have ALL the files.

I used MIDI-OX to SYSEX send 2.5 firmware.  Instructions were great, took me about 15 minutes total, was SUPER easy!

PS - I DID do all this with XP32, I was lucky and had a way to install the old OS.  Used a UNO cable.

It's about the only place to find anything in the way of support for the Vetta these days.

First off, I want to thank all members who I have PM'ed for files and software and have delivered! Many, many thanks also go out to those forum members who actively post and share their knowledge base with us. Now for my situation.......

I took a chance and purchased a dead Vetta one combo. Plug it in and nothing - no LCD screen activity, not even at any viewing angle - quiet as a mouse. Took the chassis out and the fuse is good and that is a good thing indication that the boards inside did not get fried. Took Ohm readings on the speakers disconnected from their leads and they read 6.4 ohms unloaded. Now, do I really need an isolation transformer to probe for voltages with my DigitalMultiMeter? I've been reading the service manual and you can't miss this warning. I also tested the CR battery and it is .004 volts. I may take the board out and retest the CR battery not sure I had a good ground. As the amp is 16 years old, I'm not hopeful the battery will give an acceptable voltage reading on my DMM.

Before I Chang the battery, is it worth my time to try a firmware update? I have read that others have had dead screens and updated by Midi and were successful even though they were "Flying Blind".

Here's the link for flying blind at reddit:

https://www.reddit.com/r/vetta/comments/4w5ze5/firmware_update_guide/

Update

I am replacing the original CR2032. Chassis removed from Vetta combo by removing 4 speaker leads and 6 Phillips head bolts. The exterior chassis insulating tape is sticky. You may have to persuade the chassis from the cabinet by wiggling gently back and forth. .

Chassis top is the user interface ( UI ). Separate UI by removing 5 hex socket bolts. Lift UI at that edge and insulating Tape will act as a hinge. Remove 3 ribbon cable connectors from chassis and Carefully peel insulating tape from classic and leave connected to UI.

Fuse passes continuity test. No burn or dark spots on fuse glass. Next step is remove the battery board from the chassis.
