Please put the Pod X3 Live back in production. Just the way it was, No new moddeling tech or current gen processing.

I have owened, Pod HD500, Pod HD400, Pod HD Pro & Pod HD Desktop (twice). Every amp model sounds exactley the same.

I think your current gen Algorhythmns are flawed.

You had it right with X3 Live. I have the X3 Bean but need the effects loop of the X3 Live.

I think this would be a nice alternative that you could offer for players

I know this won't happen but, There it is....

Not to state the obvious, but it's pretty easy to find a used X3L. Problem solved.

Well, Problem not solved.

Of course I could buy one used...

Here is my map for re-intergating Pod X3 Live along side current generation Line 6 Pod offerings.

1. Discontinue HD300- This is a money leak and only functions as a gateway for upgrading to HD 400/500

2. Replace the HD300 with the original X3 Live.- Refit X3 Live into current gen external build quality, Keeping all I/O options as original X3 Live. Price at HD300 price-point.

3. Discontinue HD400- The effects loop problem is VERY BAD.

4. Keep HD500 & HD Pro.

5. I believe that Line 6 had it right with the X3 Live, More right than they may want to admit.

Hd modelling is fine, great in fact but as stated above-  at this stage, unless you've got it intergrated with the bogner DT amps to give "voice" to the personality of the models it just sounds exactly the same.

Case in point; The reason I say the algorythms are flawed- "HUM"--Really?? C'Mon!! This alone PROVES that the algorythm is deeply flawed and in essence most likely the very reason why all the amp models sound the same.

the modeling is so deep that in factwhat is mostley being emulated IS NOISE.

We Dont Want Hum, thats why We buy Pods.

Whatever was going on in the X3 gen. was truley great, stopping and hovering just above Total realistic sounds. It had all of the clarity and depth and Punch without introducing levels of complexity that actually negate the point of using a modeler.

My Point here is. The X3 Live was far greater than acknowledged and deserves continued life just as is.

The code is there, the machine designs are there. Why Not?

Well, good luck with that... It ain't gonna happen.

I hope you don't say things like around you're peers.  Actually, it WILL HAPPEN. Perhaps in a form different from what I've described, in fact it is happening even now.

i'm hoping they bring back "new coke" or "crystal pepsi" too... i mean they just have the formula's laying around.....

Hi,

Coke and Pepsi have thier own website forums...I would go there to discuss thier products.

That New Coke scam wasn't funny. Coke was my favorite soda (until I quit drinking soda)  and they came out with that new junk when I was a teenager delivering papers. I couple of corner store me and my friends frequented were kind enough to reserve all their old inventory for us. When that ran out I was going thru withdrawals. Luckily my prediction that they would bring back the previous formula under a new name came true. But I thought they were going to call it Original.

But I get it, when you find your sound you've found your sound!!

I personally was a bit surprised when the xt and X3 series were discontinued but not the FloorPod Plus or POD 2.0.

wcmexbm, I hear you brother.

For mr the new HD models have no soul. Every time I'm in a different store I demo the HD line and nothing I hear makes me want to buy one. They just don't sound good.

But the X3 sounds great and way better in not only my opinion, but others as well. Great sound and lots of amp options for guitar and bass make it an easy choice. And the POD 2.0 has a few sounds that the X3 or HD PODs can't even touch. That's why in my studio I have 2 original PODs, a POD 2.0 rack, and an X3.

Since you have a good ear for tone I recommend trying the Zoom G5, or maybe the MS100-BT as something to add to you setup. I'm not saying the amp models are better than the X3. But what you would gain is the ability to call up , for example, 6 delays or choruses, or 3 dual band parametric EQs. The Zoom units are great for tone shaping.

Hi gang! Just got back on the X3 Live train..... To make a short story long, I've been using Line 6 stuff since 2007. Pocket pod, Variax, Xt live, X3 live, HD500. While I gave it my best shot, I just couldn't warm up to the HD500 and sold it. I've been using the Zoom G5 and the damn little thing sounds freakin good! BUT, I did miss the sound of the X3 Live and just ordered another on Ebay. I really enjoyed using the X3 Live on stage and decided to go back to it. If you look at my old threads you'll see I really gave the HD500 many kudo's while having trouble getting it to sound good to me doing the things I needed it to do and looking for what I missed in my old X3 Live.

Now I hope I don't run into problems with this new Licence manager stuff. If I do, so long Line 6!

Dan

UPDATE! Got my new/used X3 Live from Ebay. Damn I forgot how good the thing sounded! Also using my experience gained from using the HD500 and I'm getting better than ever tones!

Life is good Guys! (at least so far!)  :)

Yes, bring back the X3L !!! It's a pitty that nobody at Line6 doesn't care about it anymore. No updates, no news, no nothing. At least put itback in and have it updated/upgraded. Hey, we payed for it, it still is the best floor board you made. Startin' is right....most of us want the X3L back. Just do it.

Line 6 seems to have forgotten about tone. It's too bad. I used to buy their gear all the time, but now I just pass it by.

But like I said the gear tat is still out there works and sounds great! That's why I bought a second original POD. I've turned musicians who lived and died for that pure tube sound on to old Line 6 gear, but now it's time to stop. Soon you won't be able to get it at a great price on eBay any more.

Even Line 6 realizes how good it sounds. That's what they still sell POD 2.0. But some how they forgot how to capture good tone. If they are like most companies these days, the original engineers either left or were cut and they took their secrets with them.

Oh well, I have one more original POD to purchase and I'm done.

Looks like I have a tone deaf hater not liking my posts. My guess is that they sunk loads of cash into the HD gear and don't want to hear the the emperor has to tone.

That's why Line 6 makes gear for everyone. Even the deaf.

I have own Line 6 gear since 97-98.

I didn't care so much about the Original POD, I thought it sounded plastic and the software felt sluggish. There were alternatives among the competition that sounded and felt way better.

With the Xt, however, they really got a lot of things right in my opinion. I've had it for about 10 years now, it's fully upgraded and it just delivers it for me. :)

Almost 2 years ago I bought the POD HD, and sure, there are some really nice sounds you can get with it, but it just doesn't do it for me, it sounds kinda boring and flat a lot of the time. It just isn't inspiring.

I never got around trying the X3 version, which is a shame since they are now out of production, but I've heard some really nice demos of it.

Not surprisingly it sounds very much like the Xt, and I've always believed that they were excactly the same when it came to the modelling.

Are they the same or are there any differences regarding the modelling?

I agree, Line 6 should not have discontinued the Xt or the X3 versions, they had a couple of really good-sounding units there.

If they can bring back the boring POD 2.0, there should be no problem bringing back these two...ehum. :)

I'd buy one of each instantly.

Until that, I'll hope that the one I have dont brake, and that I can find some nice used units out there.

Great Post.

I am a newbie to Line6 product usage & forums so bare with me.

Looking for recommendations from you experts and leveraging this related thread.

I purchased an X3L years back started using it until I had a strange problem where during performance, the volume would intermittently drop drastically on all outputs/presets etc., Had it supposedly fix by authorized dealer and nothing was really done. Issue was still there thus got frustrated stop using the unit.  I began to use it again recently and love it. unfortunately the problem is still there where during gigs at some point volume drops and I've had a few embarrassed moments and I am forced to stop using it.  Since product is no longer supported and considering purchasing an HD500/500X.

I thought it was me that the sound of these units sound weak, not as FAT as the X3 Live. I thought this new technology would be better, but it seems they fall short to the X3L.  But I was going to purchase an HD500X anyway since no choice.

After reading this thread I am considering purchasing another  X3 Live USED, but worry I may purchase a unit with issues and I find myself with two X3 Lives with issues and can't use.

Any suggestions on minimizing risk of purchasing a used X3 Live?

actually you can probably make your current x3 work by "parking the knobs"

basically set them all at 0, except the master.

the volume changes are usually due to the digital pots detecting small vibrations and re-reading knob positions.

basically use the knobs when editing save tones, and then park them... should give you the correct sound when you reselect the tone.

Interesting suggestion, "parking the knob". (Thanks)

Note that the issue happens only during performance and when the sound drops by about 90%, even pressing the expression pedal all the way down barely raises the volume back to normal.  So the issue even affects the volume pedals and all presets. Is like the entire pedal goes into a distorted/clip mode and all volume drop.

Since this issue only happens after a few hours of usage during a gig/performance & I have not been able to replicate at home (even when I leave the board on all day to test for overheating), I will definitely try the X3Live one more time during next gig and "park the knobs" and test results.

Thanks.

X3 better than HD, vanilla better than chocolate? I believe a matter of taste and ESPECIALLY how you tweak and "tune" the pod to whatever equipment you run thru, HD requires diffrent tweaking than xt , x3. soooooo many musicians disregard the line 6 stuff before putting the time, work and variables required to get these AMAZING units to sound as jaw dropping stunning as they can be! I also wish line 6 would bring back the x3! Had 2 hd500s after the 3rd locked up, just settled for bean HD. Love it! But after spending countless hours shaping tones on x3, for cover band, original band and recording...... I wanted to KEEP many of those tones, I scoured the Internet and FOUND A MUSIC STORE IN NJ THAT HAD A BRAND NEW UNOPENED X3! $400.oo. I am sure there is one out there seek and you will find...

Thanks everyone for the suggestions.

So I did seek and actually found (Studioratlollipop thanks for suggestion) a store with new unopened X3 Live for under $300.  Before I pull the trigger and purchase a new X3  Live (even if is discontinued) instead of getting the HD500X , , my last question to the forum:

Note I play for a wedding band, top 40 music, some rock, etc. I also new to the playing live scene, really inexperienced, the question is:

If $ was NOT an issue, and you owned an X3 Live that is broken beyond repair, would you buy another X3 Live again instead of an HD500X at this stage of the Line6 Technological evolution?  Experts, would you do this?

Nope... I have both actually, and since I've gotten the HD500, I've hardly touched the X3 Live. For playing live, the HD500 is better in nearly every way I can think of.

following the advise of the experts, I went to the local guitar store I normally shop today and they gave me a used HD500X to take home as a loaner (free) and try it for two weeks.  If I like it I can return it and buy a new one or just return it.   I setting it up now and looking forward to evaluating it myself.

I am reading the manual now to get familiar.

Thanks for support.  .

I love my X3Live, even though I had to send it back for the audio drop-out issue way back when it was new. I never did understand why Line6 introduced the HD series while doing away with most of the coolest features of the X3 like all the output choices.  As for the Coke Classic analogy, the same thing that applied to Coke applies to any Brand or product. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. The only lasting complaint about the X3 Live was the plastic chassis. I don't gig, but, I have dragged it to a lot of jams with no issues.  I would love to see them re-issue it as was! I think the AMP-LIFI is cool but they really should have put at least a tube pre-amp in it.

I have a PodXT Live and an X3Live. I never really got around to tweaking the X3 as much as I did the first one. To me, the XT sounded great, and was all I needed.

So what we're dealing with is simple nostalgia, and perhaps familariarty with a device. I think I'll be able to do with the 500x what I was able to do with the XT, albeit with different routes to achiving a desired tone. After all, it just simulates the routing of effects and position of mic, they're numbers, it's a program, nothing is physically there and those values only serve as a reference for what you're attempting to achive. If I got a solid metal tone with my computerized mic upside down, behind the amp, and under water, those would be the settings I'd choose. I think many people forget that.
