Can you reconfigure L2T via L6 from a HD500X via presets?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone

I'm buying a dream rig (JTV69/HD500X/L2T) this week and this is a very important feature I need for my gig.

I need to know if the L2T can be configured via L6 from the HD500x

So the L2T can change it's rear setting from electric to acoustic with a preset on the HD500x

A video on You Tube says it can be done via presets from the HD500x but don't say how to do it.

I would appreciate if you guys can help me out

This is a gret feature that I hope it can be done.

Thanks

Charles

.

Run a DMX cable between the Pod and the L2 using L6 link. This way you can switch speaker modes per patch depending whether you want electric or acoustic tones. You cannot save the speaker modes via HD edit though. To get the Pod to change modes dial in your tone as normal using HD edit, manually switch to the required mode on the Stagesource speaker the hit save on the Pod, not HD edit. If you save via HD edit the speaker mode will default to PA mode.

Hope that helps, good luck

Thanks so much for your fast reply guys…!

Still have a few questions:

1. Is there a video online that show how to do this?

2. Which way is the best way to use the JTV69 [VDI or G50 wireless]

I prefer wireless but if there are advantages that VDI has over wireless I'm all ears. [Please explain]

3. Can I use any brand of Ethercon [VDI] and L6 [DMX] cable for this?

Please explain specifics or what to avoid etc...

I prefer to buy the best from the start [buy once cry once] so let me know.

Very excited about this rig and all it can do live

thanks again

Charles

  1. Not sure if there's a video for this, and not sure you really need one - it's pretty straight forward, but you MUST use the L6Link connection between the HD500 & L2T speaker. Here's the link to all the tutorial videos: http://line6.com/support/page/kb/_/general-faq/line-6-video-tutorials-complete-list-r202

  2. Not sure about wireless, but the VDI cable allows you all sorts of control possibilities that I don't believe you can get any other way, like switching JTV models (stored in your HD patches), using the JTV volume & tone controls to control various HD parameters in real time.

I've used home made VDI cables made by members on this form. They work fine. Don't know about the DMX cable. Obviously any cables you use would have to meet or exceed specs for each, but beyond that I don't think who supplys them is an issue.

Thanks a lot guys

I'm inching closer to grasp everything I need.

I'm still not 100% certain how to do the switching preset on the HD500X
I tried looking the whole day for videos that can show it with no luck nor on the Line 6 Video Data Base.

There's no way for me to try this dream rig before hence all of my questions

I'm not sure if it is that much better than to go direct to a PA and call it a day

But the thought of changing everything with a push of a switch is just to tempting not to do it.

i would appreciate any other tips or video links so I can finally get this going
I'll be ordering this by Friday or Monday if I still have questions.

Regarding the cables needed to make this work…
Are all the cables included with the rig [HD500X/JTV69/L2T] or I need to buy cables?

thanks again,

Charles

No - the AES/EBU cables for L6 LINK are not included with the rig. You must purchase them separately. See the Line 6 STORE link at top of this page for the official Line 6 cables.

There's one thing to clearly understand about storing the speaker mode in the HD500X preset. That mechanism is designed for the situation where you are using the speaker exclusively for the HD500X. However, if the speaker is being used as a general PA speaker, with other pieces of equipment connected to the PA system, you probably do not want to use this feature. Leave the speaker in PA/Reference mode so that all pieces of equipment maintain a consistent sound, and make sure you save all your HD500X presets with the speaker in this mode.

Thanks Silverhead

I figured that out

The L2T will be acting like an amp and dedicated to that unless I go direct to my PA then I can use it as a regular PA speaker.

I need to buy a L6 or VDI cable?

Do you guys know where can I buy a better quality VDI/L6 cable?

There are a few on ebay that are built like a tank and not that expensive.

But not sure if they are correctly terminated for the Line 6 system.

They definitely look way more rugged than the Line 6 branded cables...

I just ordered my "Dream Rig" so let's hope is THAT GOOD.

Anything else I should look into or need?

thanks,

C

You will need to buy both a VDI cable and an L6 LINK cable.

The VDI cable is basically an RJ-45 (Ethernet) cable with a protective shield at both ends. There is a user on this forum who sells his custom built cables at a very reasonable price. A quick search of the forum should find him.

The L6 LINK cable uses XLR cable jacks but it is an AES/EBU cable designed to carry digital data. Any AES/EBU cable will do.

Great; So any Ethercon and AES/EBU cable will do.

I prefer to get the most rugged one so I don't have to keep buying cables down the road.

So that's it i don't need to buy anything else right?

thanks a lot

Charles

That should about do it for cables. The 'official' Line 6 version of the VDI works well but doesn't really look or feel like a guitar lead. I have been thinking of trying a VDI made by the guy Silverhead mentioned above. I opted to buy a cheap DMX cable off Ebay for £6 delivered for the L6 link connection and it works perfectly but I'm guessing that at £30+ the Line 6 version may be a bit more durable.

This problem has been fixed. New L2T speakers do not have the problem. If you receive an older speaker (still in retailer stock/inventory) that exhibits this problem return it for replacement, or contact Line 6 directly for free repair under warranty.

Thanks a lot Silverhead for the reply

Question:

Is there a serial or reference # to know if I'm getting a newer or older model?

thanks,

Charles

You're very welcome. I hope you enjoy your new dream rig!! Don't get discouraged if you don't get fantastic results immediately. It can be a bit complex and time consuming to get everything interacting well together.

We're always here to help you work things out as you go along. Don't hesitate to ask!

I'm very excited and I expect a certain degree of tweaking is needed to get best results

I was just wondering if there's a noticeable audio quality improovement with the L2T over going direct to PA with just the JTV69 and the 500X.

that is my main concern

Most of my patches use 'electric guitar' mode on my L3. To my ears electric guitar mode sounds less brittle and fuller than using p.a. mode. So the answer to you question is yes, there is a noticeable improvement in sound quality by going through an L2 rather than a regular p.a. (all IMHO of course!!). That's not to say you won't use p.a. and acoustic guitar modes as well because you can get some awesome tones using the L2 configured this way too.

You'll love it!!
