andyalderson1981
Hey guys, hope you can help. I'm getting a high pitched noise from the G90 which gets much more noticeable the more gain is added. I realise all the gain is doing is amplifying the noise which makes the noise more apparent but It shouldn't be there in the first place, the noise is non existent when using a cable. Unfortunately I don't have any other receivers or transmitters to switch out and test. I have tried another cable (guitar to transmitter) and it's still the same, the noise stops when the transmitter is switched off. Many thanks! dboomer
The noise is most likely some interaction between the transmitter, the cable and your instrument. You probably don't hear it when using a cable only because the cable cuts the highs so much the hnoise is effectively blocked. Relay wireless is full frequency response so it lets it through. Do you get noise when using a different guitar? Try the transmitter and cable but no instrument. Now take some tinfoil or a paper clip and short the tip to the ring of the 1/4" end. Does the noise go away?
andyalderson1981
Hey, thanks for your advice and prompt response! I have since done a little more investigation and found that the noise stops when I touch the transmitter. I makes no difference wether the guitar is plugged in, or even if there'a lead plugged into the transmitter. Oh and I tried the foil trick but that makes no difference either. I'm thinking that the transmitter is faulty, it seems like it's using me as some sort of grounding??
dboomer
If you've shorted the input (with the tin foil) and the noise didn't stop you likely have a hardware issue. You'll need to contact the service department (use contact us link at bottom of the page)
andyalderson1981
Hey. I've just received the g90 back from thomann and they said there's nothing wrong with it and sent it back. Could it be that i am experiencing normal operation? Should i expect some noise or interferance?
dboomer
Every piece of electronic gear has some noise associated with it. It's called the "signal to noise ratio". Electric guitars don't have particularly great SN ratios (especially single coil models) so they create a lot of junk in the signal. Normally a lot of higher frequency noise from your guitar is actually lost in your guitar cable. But because Relay systems don't lose any of the signal you are now hearing a noise that has been there all along. Does changing the cable models on the Relay make any difference to this noise you are hearing?
tccc
Don, is it not likely that Andy has the same problem with the early transmitters that I have with mine? A high-pitched whine that varies if you touch the transmitter casing and disappears if you cover the majority of the casing in your hand, and is present regardless of a cable/mic being connected or not... sounds exactly the same as the problem I've described before. dboomer
Possible. But I assume that since no problem was found when it was in the shop that was ruled out.
sdevino
I am not sure the shop would be aware of this issue because it occurred in very few transmitters. If they can reproduce the noise at the service center than it should be replaced. Have the contact Line 6 directly if they have a question.
