re:modelling knob on 59

Recommended Posts

The other day I had the " sticky knob" problem . . .lol  - I was just wondering, that knob supposedly just pulls off correct?

I ask because it's the surrounding plastic base ring that's become detached - & when I tried to pull the knob upwards I couldn't do it. The dsp is working fine now, but hard to see led w/that ring not in place.

On another sad note - I had to sell my 69 BACK to the store to pay off my debt w/them (sad day)

It just pulls off. You shouldn't need any special tool but if it's very tight you may need to use something to gently lever it upwards. You might try a small straight-headed screwdriver or something like that. Use cloth material to protect the body of the guitar at the leverage points. Move slowly all around the knob, gently levering it upwards a bit at a time, applying equal pressure at a few points around the circumference until you are able to pull it off manually. Don't lever it too much on one side; you may damage the gear slots inside or otherwise unbalance the knob.

When replacing the knob make sure you have it positioned properly so that the correct model is indicated.

Here's an easy way to do it. Grab two spoons. Again, protect the top of your guitar with some cloth or something. Put the tip of one spoon under the edge of one side of the knob and the tip of the other spoon on the opposite side of the knob. Now just press down on the handles of the spoons and the tips of the spoons should lever the knob up. Once you get it started, you should be able to take it off the rest of the way by hand.
