davenose
This is my first forum post, so apologies if I've missed this topic in my forum and general internet searches. I've had a POD HD500 for about a half year now, and generally love it. However, I find myself wanting an option that allows the bank up/down footswitches (in ABCD mode) to immediately activate the preset in the new bank corresponding to the currently selected channel, rather than require a 2-footswitch selecion (up or down bank footswitch followed by channel A-D footswitch). Has this been discussed previously? Would anyone else find this useful? My usage is in an experimental improv trio, where frequent tone changes by each member result in interesting (and sometimes bad) soundscapes. I have my setlists organized with the channels in each bank having general categories (ie, clean, distortion, spacy, weird, etc). It would be very useful to switch banks, and immediately have a new tone within my defined category (ie, channel), without having to move my foot twice, distracting from the vibe of the improv. -Dave
jasonk931
Amen to that! I am needing the same. I normally will use two seperate tones for a single song and sometimes can't get to my computer and bank them parallel to one another in the same ABCD space. I hope someone has an answer!
jws1982
Each patch in each bank has a midi value assigned to it. A midi controller, like a ground control pro, would let you switch between any patch in any bank on the fly.

For example turning on a chorus is a tone change. You could go to th FS1-FS8 foot switch mode and go to a performance view. That way you can turn on and off fx amp models etc with one click. You could do a dual amp patch with an external expression pedal. You would then assign one amp to exp 1 and the other to exp 2. Fade them in and out blend them pan 'em. Lots of tonal possibilities and you never have to change a patch.
davenose
Tboneous, thanks for the comment. By "tone" (yes, I suppose I use the term is a nebulous manner), I mean any significant change in tonal character. That could certainly include turning on/off fx/amp models in pedalboard mode as you suggest. Pedalboard mode didn't seem initially to me to offer as broad a range of "tone" changing flexibility as preset mode. While it's true that within a given preset, a footswitch can be be assigned to change a large number of parameters at once, selecting a different preset allows an entirely different set of fx/amp models to be loaded, with preset mode still providing FS1-FS4 for further tone shaping possibilities. Of course presets can still be changed by foot in pedalboard mode, but not with a single footswitch press, as by pressing FS5-FS8 in preset mode. Let me know if I'm off base here. jws1982 - I have read about the MIDI capabilities. I suppose another goal of mine is to maximize the tonal control within a minimum floor area. I took a look at the ground control pro, and while it looks pretty capable, it has a pretty large floor area. I actually I am using the HD500 MIDI out to send patch changes to a multi-fx rack unit (which itself has a patch up/down footswitch ) routed through the HD500 fx loop. As such, I've already expanded my 'footprint' for greater tonal control, but I don't want to expand much more. From reading a bit in this forum and other internet searches, it doesn't seem to me that owners have much ability to suggest new features for the POD firmware. Is that a correct interpretation? davenose
And I do have an external expression pedal also ... 8*)
Tboneous
In the preset mode, you can toggle through 4 presets in the bank. Each preset within the bank can be shaped by 4 fx that can be toggled on/off. That gives you 20 different ways to drastically alter your tone without having to bank up and down. Least not I forget to mention the 2 expression pedals that could be assigned to eq's, gain on distortions, speed/feedback on delays, Q's on filters, etc. You really need more than that in one improvised song? If so, the midi pedalboard may be your best bet. Let me know where you guys play. I want to see the band with the guitarist who's tone changes over 20 times/song! ;0)
