L2m via link cable ccausing POD 500 to switch to combo/stack?

Recommended Posts

It seems that the when I have the POD HD500 connected to a L2m speaker via the link cable that the POD is being forced into combo/stack output mode. I have tried saving this setting with my resets but when I power up the L2m the POD switches to combo/stack which is highly annoying, as I have remember to change the output mode every time I power up my system.

Is there some way to prevent this from happening?

The only thing I can think of is when saving the speaker modes per patch you have to do it on the HD500 unit itself, not through HD edit otherwise the speaker mode defaults to p.a. Maybe it's a similar issue i.e. if you are saving the global studio/direct via edit, try it on the pod itself. That said, this doesn't happen on my rig which is similar.

Good luck

By default when the L2m sees the HD500 it will set itself to electric guitar which is not the setting you want to use if you want to use the full amp and speaker models. You have to change the speaker setting to P.A. reference and save for each patch you set up. I have tried saving each patch after setting the HD500 to Studio/Direct but it keeps getting switched back to combo/stack which sounds like lollipop.

It seems to me that Line 6 really chose the wrong defaults for POD500 -> L2m. Why would you want to use only preamp models with the single cab emulation on the speaker? The POD sounds amazing with the full amp and speaker models running into the speaker in P.A. reference mode.

I conformed that the L2m is changing the setting on the POD HD500. I turned on the POD, set the output to Studio/Direct. I then powered up the L2m which is connected via the link cable. As soon as the L2m powers up completely it switches the POD to Combo Stack mode.

I really think that this is the wrong default to select for this speaker and wonder what the thinking was behind the decision to use combo stack mode when attached to the L2m.
