Acoustic Guitar...
by kmachman on 2013-03-12 09:14:38

I am really enjoying reading the posts in this forum.  Awesome bunvh of people here.

I have the M20D  and the L3T and L3S speakers on order.

I have a questiuon about acoustic guitars.

When plugging in an acoustic guitar into the M20D, will it have the same DSP effects as plugging it directly into the L3T speakers with the acoustic emulation?

No, the available DSP in the M20d and the L3t mixer are not identical. The M20d offers much more in terms of chorus, delay, reverb, and EQ options and flexibility. However the M20d does not have (at least I haven't found it) the acoustic body emulation that the L3t has and imho that is a big difference. I find I get a better tone using my Martin D28 with under-saddle pickups when I plug directly into the L3t Channel 1 and use the Acoustic Body emulation, versus going directly into the M20d.

Having said that, the M20d does give me a very good tone with the Martin - it's just that I find the L3t tone to be somewhat warmer, and I think that is due to the body emulation.

How do you go about being able to mix that playing with a band when everyone else is plugged into the M20D?  Do you have to manually go to the back of the speaker to adjust your levels for the Martin?

Yes - you need to level the volumes manually. Where/how you do it depends on what other speakers you are using, how they are connected (L6 Link vs nornal audio), and the position of the L3t in the chain. You may have to mess around with different configurations to get the acoustic guitar to be heard in both speakers, and there's no panning on the L3t mixer. I've managed to do it while testing but it's not my normal setup so I forget exactly how.

Maybe the acoustic emulation will be added in a future update.  Seems useless to have that option but not be able to use it in conjunction with the mixer that is made for this speaker configuration.

The information above may not be current, and you should direct questions to the current forum or review the manual.
