Which audio interface for recording three vocals simultaneously?
by onthebay on 2009-06-11 03:50:52

Hi, we're looking to buy an audio interf for (jazzy/warm) vocals mainly. Needs to be compatible with Windows XP as well as MAC OSX.5.7, preferably firewire or USB 2. It's been recommend we buy a POD Studio™ UX2  with two mic inputs. We really want 4 mic inputs and also wonder if protools is compatible with that particular POD? to record 3 voices/guitar simultaneously). We understand that incompatible software can spoil the recording experience. Our budget is $1000 or 1200 max and we were told that an economical way to purchase protools is to buy one line input M audio mini which comes with protools for around 4 or $500. But then we have only three mic inputs (2 from POD and 1 from M Audio) which probably can't be used simultaneously, or can they? Also we don't know if the protools software is compatible with the POD studio and POD software with M Audio?

Thank you.

Mimi

hi Mimi

note that ProTools only allows the use of M-Audio or Digidesign interfaces...

if you plan using any other DAW, then you better get the UX8 (http://line6.com/toneportux8/), all other Line6 models only allow up to 2 simultaneous sources on recording

cheers

also, under Widows you can't use simultaneously more than 1 audio interface...!!!

you may achieve this under Mac OSX, using the 'Aggregate Devices' feature... but this won't make any difference on PTools= only PTools hardware...

cheers

Sounds just what we're after. You wouldn't happen to know if the UX 8 is compatible with the logic software? Or maybe not necessary with the bundled software which comes with UX8. Getting really excited about this. I thought US had different power supply rating but liked how the site mentioned the (free) updated software to POD platinum. Very usefull info re the protools compatibility, we've been looking and asking for months now and in a few lines you told us stacks of things we hadn't been able to figure out as yet. thnx

yes, it is Logic compatible; L6 gear uses ASIO, WDM and AU drivers, so is compatible with all usual DAWs out there, is just PTools that requires propietary hardware...

do not worry about local voltage, UX8s are both 110/220v (universal power supply, you don't even need acting a switch on it... )

cheers!

Wow, you know a lot. We're well on our way now.

Thank heaps. You've saved us a lot of time. BIG grin.
