First post on new forum.
by timowens on 2009-03-11 22:25:12

Questions:

Is this really the first thread on this new forum?

Did we loose all the old threads?

Can we only start a thread in the forum of a product that we have registered in our name?

It would be a shame if we lost all of the vast knowledge that was in this forum.

Welcome back, Kotters.

Not sure what to make of the new place.  Came back online before I'd guessed, but I'm glad to have it back.

+1,000,000,000,000,000,000 on making the old forums available.

Cheers,

Fester2k

Yeah, there was a lot of knowledge in the old forums

Re: First post on new forum.
by rictay73 on 2009-03-11 23:01:00

Wow, this is a little confusing. I'm used to popping straight into the L6ers' lounge from the menu page. How the heck do you navigate this new fangled forum?

Re: First post on new forum.
by TheRealZap on 2009-03-11 23:04:04

i've poked around a bit, and there are some added features to like... but navigation sucks at this point...

probably intentional to make it harder for a casual visitor to see all of our b*tchin'! haha

Re: First post on new forum.
by gangsterusa on 2009-03-11 23:04:29

New forums??? Like the old one much better.

Re: First post on new forum.
by UKDude on 2009-03-11 23:06:59

Not being able to upload your own avatar is a bummer, I hope they fix that before Dec 2012, ha ha.

Dude

Re: First post on new forum.
by gangsterusa on 2009-03-11 23:10:14

All of my private messages are gone.

Re: First post on new forum.
by timowens on 2009-03-11 23:12:02

Seriously, my only real gripe is that it doesn't fit on my screen, I have to keep scrolling left to see. Is it just me or do others have this problem?

Re: First post on new forum.
by TheRealZap on 2009-03-11 23:14:04

just you.... check the zoom setting on your browser... lower right corner...

works fine for me... of course i'm running 1280x1024 on this machine...

Re: First post on new forum.
by TheRealZap on 2009-03-11 23:16:01

the friend feature of the new forum is pretty cool... highlights your friends posts with a different color... helps weed out the trolls

anyone else notice that only htm/html files can be uploaded on your post? so much for all the great pictures/tones etc

Re: First post on new forum.
by timowens on 2009-03-11 23:18:03

Thanks, it's the simple things that baffle me. I always do that by mistake, I press the Ctrl key with my leg when I put my feet up on the desk and as soon as I move the mouse wheel it changes.

Re: First post on new forum.
by UKDude on 2009-03-11 23:21:52

Browser works for me ok and I am using Windows 7 beta. I uploaded a picture ok.

Dude

Re: First post on new forum.
by TheRealZap on 2009-03-11 23:25:14

uploading a picture to your profile works... i did mine too... but on your posts... it says only htm/html attachments... i didn't try it... thats what it says though. i've had 2 seperate installs of windows 7... it's not as good as the hype... google workstation 2008 for a rock solid lightning fast OS...

Re: First post on new forum.
by Septemfluous on 2009-03-11 23:25:38

A summary of current Gripey McGipes:

1.  All personal messages are gone.

2.  All previous posts (pre forum upgrade) are gone

3.  There aren't any cool avatars to choose (anybody notice the conspicuous lack of an X3L?) from and you can't upload your own.

4.  Anybody notice we're all one-star... ers?  Nobody has the pineapple anymore.  HAHA... I'm as smart as Glenn Delaune now... prove me wrong!  I tripple-dogg dare ya!

Re: First post on new forum.
by ClassicalDad on 2009-03-11 23:29:41

So that's how you manage to always have a leg up on the rest of us!

Seriously, you have no gripe about loosing the old posts?

Re: First post on new forum.
by UKDude on 2009-03-11 23:32:44

I've posted a picture on X3 Bean or X3 Pro thread, it seems to be ok, I see it fine in the thread.

Dude

I'll add:

5. Navigation is weird -- doesn't seem linear or even logical.  Maybe that'll fade with familiarity.

6. No lounge/general discussion area -- ???

7. No dots to let me know what I've already looked at or not.

8. 14 posts/page max -- seriously?

9. I'm getting a billion emails with updates I didn't ask for.  I'm sure I can shut it off, but why make that the default?

10. No "next/previous thread" option at the bottom of the screen, so I have to go back to the top of the page to go to the next thread.

I like the aesthetics, however, and the website generally seems to operate more smoothly.

Cheers,

Fester2k

EDIT: added item 10.

As for the old messages, yes and no, a fresh start might be a good thing but there sure was a lot of good info there.

Re: First post on new forum.

The forum behaves more in common with others I frequent, you will get used to it. Some forums do have bugs in them mind and I am not sure if this one has any just yet but it would not be like L6 to have bugs in their stuff now would it.

I concur re loss of old forums.  Sooo much great stuff there.  I wonder whether L6 would let us have access to the old forums for a week or 2 and nominate the top 100 or 200 threads to be preserved so at least the helpful stuff doesn't vanish forever.

Cheers,

Fester2k

"I'm as smart as Glenn Delaune now..."

And now Glenn's as smart as me!  LOL!  We're all back at the beginning again.  So much for those 5 stars I used to have.

Wow, learning curve for sure.  Not too shabby, will take some getting used to.  Hopefully it can keep me logged in for longer than 24 hours now.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the feedback. Brainstem, I'm sorry you feel that all hope is lost. I hope things work out for you.

The old forums our now up as READ ONLY. We're going to keep them up temporarily so please grab what ever you can. We couldn't keep private messages and I apologize for that.

Points have been scaled down. Believe me, we did our best to keep this the way it is too. Correct answers are now worth 5 points and helpful are worth 3.

Custom avatars have not been turned on yet. I'm hesitant to. Can you blame me?

We have left profile images turned on. So if you guys can prove to me that there won't be any profane images then I'll think twice about avatars. Fair?

Oh, and there is no conspiracy about not putting up an X3 Live avatar. I'll get one up in a little while.

The only profane picture you'll get from me is a picture of me playing my guitar.... IIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!

Re: First post on new forum.
by jasonbogen on 2009-03-12 09:16:07

Hee hee...was about to say the same thing about me.  Yeah, we can get a little crazy around here, but I don't get the impression there would be too much problem with people posting inapropriate avatars.  If there was a problem you could always block it again.

Nice choice, Miller, thanks for this.  When you say "grab" I'm guessing the thing to do is literally copy from the old and repost the contents on new threads here unless you have an objection to that.  Simply linking to the threads themselves is probably not a good long term solution, eh?

Thanks again for giving access to the old forums.

Cheers,

Fester2k

are we gonna have dots so we can see what we've already viewed? kinda funny its the second time l6 has "took our dots away" lol

Cheers, Huf

Re: First post on new forum.
by rictay73 on 2009-03-12 10:41:09

Alright, so I changed my preferences to get NO emails regarding threads I start or reply to and I'm still getting emails. What gives?

Re: First post on new forum.
by timowens on 2009-03-12 11:48:12

Hey, did everythnig just get bold indicating what threads have been updated since we last viewed them? That's almost as good as the dots.

Why yes, yes it did!  I agree -- nearly as good as the dots!!!

Now I don't have to ask L6 whether they're anti-dot or something like that.

Cheers,

Fester2k

But wait, it gets even better, now it says "Updated".

Re: First post on new forum.

rictay73,

Go into your profile and click on teh Email Prefernces tab and delete everything in there. That will stop the emails.

I hate forum upgrades. I don't post much so I'm always being taken for a newbie by new users. For me, it's really hard to accumulate more than 200 posts. And when I finally start getting some respect and recognition, boom... back to post one.

Cheers,

Fernando

Re: First post on new forum.
by ClassicalDad on 2009-03-12 15:52:49

1) Yes, it was.

2) The old forum will be up for a while, here is the link: http://line6.com/supportold/forum.jspa?forumID=41

3)Anyone can start a new thread in any forum, even if you have the USB drop out.

Re: First post on new forum.
by MIDI_Geek on 2009-03-12 22:59:24

Thanks, that was very kind.

What bothers me the most is not the recognition thing, I don't go to message boards to become miss popularity; is having to cyclically get the "new guy" treatment. That is annoying.

Re: First post on new forum.
by StringsOnFire on 2009-03-13 06:56:40

the forum looks not bad but first I need to get used to...

it's a pity that all of the old threads are gone... had saved some nice links

Re: First post on new forum.
by Insidian on 2009-03-13 09:03:22

Maybe they'll keep the old forums around for a long time like they did last time....I still miss being able to go back and look at some of the old forum post. Well, I guess technically it would be the old old forum now.

Re: First post on new forum.

After lookin around, here's my first. Checking if the profile stuff worked.

Old stuff goin..goin.. Why?
