HD500 footswitches are getting pretty erratic
by bmoyer on 2013-03-22 10:58:15

I'm wondering if anyone else has found a good solution for this problem:  There are certain footswitches I use more than others and they're getting to the point where they won't engage when I tap on them unless I try again and again (not so hot in a live situation!), or like with the Bank up and down switches they change more than one bank at a time.  And I'm not the foot stomping kind of person.  I've just used them a lot and I can see it's only going to get worse.  Any solutions beyond taking into Line6 for repair?  My unit is out of warranty so I'm open to considering options that won't just repeat itself down the road.  Thanks!

I'm not sure how but there is a "Test Mode" you can get into to test all the footswitches.

  1. To get there, power up while holding down the right arrow on the "Nav" (navigation) knob, then you'll be presented with a 'Menu' (the first choice is pedal calibration).
  2. Scroll down to "Test" mode and enter it.

Try this cuz the unit can get futzed up... as mine did... the Set List names wouldn't stay and the pedal wouldn't move any pararmeter assigned to it. Who knows I still may have to "re-flash" of reset to factory settings.

I scroll down but there is no Test mode to enter     ????  I'll check the manual.

You are already in Test mode when powering up as you did. Select the menu item that mentions footswitches, or maybe it just says switches. Your display will change to a series of zeroes (0). As you depress each footswitch, one of those zeroes should change to a one (1) indicating that the pressing has been recognized and the switch has been activated. IF you press a footswitch and there is no corresponding display change, that indicates a footswitch hardware failure.

I'm sorry to appear dense, but in test mode I don't see an option for testing the footswitches.  I tried a few other tests (buttons, for example) but none of them seem to apply to footswitches.  Could me tet mode be corrupt and that's why I don't see this particular test?  Also, how does one return to the test mode screen once you've run a individual test?  Thanks for your help.
