POD XT LIVE & Variax question
by Momental on 2013-03-23 12:46:29

I am revisiting my POD XT LIVE and VARIAX300, both old-school 1st generation. Love them both.  Gonna start using them live again.

1. I've downloaded a few CustomTones, very cool, and thanks to all. I find the process tedious and rather difficult.  I'd like to write tones Manually (I've done many of my own this way). Is there a place where I can go and view all the individual parameters for custom tones. And I can then enter them myself? I seem to remember a website a few years ago that had MANY tones listed this way. Anyone?

2. I tried to download a few tones that incorporate specific guitar patches, and was told that I had to update the Variax software before I can do that.  I 've read some horror stories online about Variax updates and I am hesitant to do this.  Is there a way to save the Variax's current default patches to insure I don't lose them? Should I just skip this because the guitar is old and just get a new one (don't really want to do this but I m scared).

Thanks in advance, you guys are great.

1. I'm not quite sure I understand what you are after. If you open the tones in GearBox then you can see the knob positions etc., but then you already have the tone anyway so don't need to enter it manually. What difficulty are you having exactly?

2. All I can say is my Variax300 updated fine. I would definitely do it, just make sure to follow all procedures advised, like powering the Variax from the XPS (or PODXT) rather than use batteries, that sort of thing:

Thanks Mr A, that helps.  The 'knob positions' are what I'm after.  And then I will enter data manually.  On the road, at a gig.  I'm trying to avoid carrying the POD in the house and connecting it up, because it lives in my eqpt van mostly.  ( And its a hassle, to me) I'm wondering if there is a web site where the 'knob positions' are listed/shown.

The information above may not be current, and you should direct questions to the current forum or review the manual.
