Other awesome sounds?
by dirtkicker on 2013-03-26 17:25:13

Hello fellow music makers!

I just purchased the JTV-89 Blood Red last week and I LOVE it!!!! I have been in a gazillion hard rock/metal bands in my life and just last year I started playing modern country.....I love what the Variax can do, don't get me wrong.....YES, I plan to keep it....and play hard rock, country, blues or whatever It can dish out.....Maybe buy another one? If my wife doesn't kick me to the curb for adding yet another toy to my collection.....lol.

My question is this, and forgive me if this has been asked before...... Does Line 6 plan on expand it's Variax sounds? Piano, Violin? Any Brass? I would feel "set for life" if that could happen..... I use to play sax leads back in the 80's over some Foreigner tunes......But if Line 6 would throw that into the creative fire.....I would freak!  I don't want to *wire-up* say, the Roland GR-55.....I was just hoping someone had the inside scoop on any new releases, if any, pertaining to my question?

Thanks for any and all replies,

Chris

Wait for the upcoming 2.0 firmware update. Should bring interesting stuff to the Variax.

If they do add stuff, It'll probably be more guitar pickups, bodies and styles, or other instruments relatively close to the likeness of the guitar.

Don't get your hopes up for a full blown synthesizer guitar. That's a whole new ballfield if they do that. Synthesis and Modeling are TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT things.

Synthesis reads, then completely ERASES the original input of the string and REPLACES it with an artificial one.

Modelling SHAPES the existing input to sound different, just like how your Amplifer distorts the guitar signal, except the Variax modifies your input to sound like a guitar pickup.

This is why the Variax is a real guitar.

Thanks clay-man! Like I said, I love my new Variax. I worked with it through the Workbench for three days and I think it is worth mentioning what I did...From knife position 1 to 5:

Model Knob

Custom 2 - Standard tuning

Tele

Banjo

Strat

Acoustic

12 String Acoustic

Reso - Drop D

Tele

Banjo

Strat

Acoustic

Les Paul

Acoustic - Eb

Tele

Banjo

Strat

Acoustic

Les Paul

Jazzbox - Drop C

Tele

Banjo

Strat

Acoustic

Les Paul

Semi - D Standard

Tele

Banjo

Strat

Acoustic

Acoustic Open D

Chime - Capo

Les Paul -  Capo 1

Banjo - Capo 1

Rickenbacher 12 String - Capo 1

Tele Capo 4

Acoustic Capo 4

R-Billy - Drop B

Tele

Banjo

Strat

Acoustic

Les Paul

These are just the last positions on the Model Knob that I programmed. Memorizing them wasn't that hard......and I can access the banjo quickly from the Tele's and the Strat's. My band has 8 different tunings so it is just easy to dial it in and play on the fly.....I am so happy with this guitar......

It will be very cool to see what comes with 2.0 update. Is there an ETA on that at all?

Thanks again clay-man,

Chris
