Do I need a DI Box?
by tochiro on 2013-03-29 01:08:50

Hi,

I plan to buy an LR Baggs M80 for my acoustic guitar (it can be set to active or passive mode).  Do I need a DI Box to connect to the StageScape?  If so, should it be active or passive?

I play about 2 meters away from the StageScape.

Thank you for your comments.

Cheers

In active mode you should be ok with just a guitar cable.

It's not ideal but I got away wih it a lot of times already...

Just try it and if it works, great.

If you get muffled sound or you have to push the pre-amp to hard and get loud noise floor, you need a DI.

For acoustic guitar I seriusly recoment something like this:

You'll love the mute footswitch (for tunning) and the extra rotting functionality for tuners, fx, etc...

I don't think you'll need a DI.  The M20d in my experience so far has a pretty wide range of trim, I think you'll probably be able to use in either passive or active, you'll just have to adjust your trim accordingly.

Depending on the exact impedance of the guitar output it is usually no problem to plug in straight to the mixer. As Antonio mentioned- just try it.
