JTV interface with Spider IV 75?
by giaturr on 2013-04-13 12:31:03

I'm asking this because.... I've just bricked my Fbv Exress MKII while upgrading Spider firmware.

Not entirely my fault, indeed, more a bug in Fbv firmware.

Anyone knows if it is possible to use the JTV usb interface to connect Spider IV with a computer?

The connections seem to be right: rj45 on Spider side and usb on computer side.

I wolud like to get an expert advice, in order to avoid thrashing some other piece of equipment.

Thanks everybody

The RJ45 connection is for communication between the pedal and the amp (or POD), not for USB updating/communication.

Not true: if you want to use Edit software, or if you want to upgrade firmware, you must connect

pc ->usb->(interface)->rj45->amplifier.

Where (interface) is usually a FBV MKII pedalboard.

Just asking if for (interface) you can use the JTV box, that can be connected the same way.

I think you were mis-reading what I posted because your > > diagram is the same as what I said.  I don't think you can use the James Tyler Variax interface for amp to computer connection, it is made for use with the JTV guitars.

I think it would be best to have the USB connection on the amp, that way people may not want to add the pedalboard right away, or can't afford to buy both at the same time.

i know some that just don't want it, and that will hurt sales if you need to buy a pedal board just to keep your amp updated or add / upload sound tones or edit.

just my 2 cents.  as i never use the pedal board while recording at home. only for edits to my channels.

Absolutely, that would be THE option!

Maybe Spider IV is too old, but nowadays they are putting usb interfaces on every piece of equipment that can be poewred on......

I agree regarding the amp-USB connection.   What you need to remember is that with the Spider IV, this USB connection is for controlling the sound (F/X), it is not an audio connection, which is what you get from other amps (like the Fender Mustang).

But, I cannot imagine why someone would NOT want a footpedal controller with an amp, so I think Line 6 needs to look at providing a lower cost solution in the next generation of amps which includes a pedal with the amp, even if it is a simple up-down switch like the original FBV-2.

The information above may not be current, and you should direct questions to the current forum or review the manual.
