Should we or shouldn't we? I don't see a gear forum. And, where should we report bugs? (I'm not liking the way smileys break your lines and also the way "comment" hovers over the next page options. Also, no preview?)

For what its worth after using 3 generations of Line 6 modeling products over the last 7 years........ While the Axe-FX is not without it's challenges, it has far exceeded my expectations on so many levels.

I forgot to show my third axe:

If there is ever show your guitar thread, then I can post a bunch.

Well, you know what Steve Martin use to say....and there doesn't appear to be a way to edit the original....which is another bug. Start one up!

Are you referring to your original subject line?  I haven't started a thread yet, but I can change the subject on my own messages.

I knew what you meant when you said axe.      I know I can google it a second, but I can't remember why or when guitars began being called an axe.

Here is my #1

Hanging out just like always but not as frequent... you know filling in idle time.   The fasination here is like going to the races.    Its not been announced and probably never will be but for what its worth I quit p43.

Here is an oldie.  The only bit of music gear in that photo that remains is the guitar stand.  I don't even have those cables any more.

Nah don't be sorry.  It was my choice to quit.  Same for when I "nixed the 6" products across the board.

Here is one for the road....  Not it's current configuration though.   It now has P90s and GK-3 attached.   Driving to LA in a few so no more photos from me for a week. Hopefully I can figure out how to located these forums again from the laptop, but then again maybe not!

Its a 2004 Fernandes Ravelle Elite.  They only made 36 of them in this color that year so they say.  I think they stopped making that model.  The tag says blue, but I always thought it looked green.  The red spec is a reflection from the xmas tree lights.   There is Fernades USA site site as well as Fernandes Japan.  Google can find both.  Fernandes/Burny are my favorite guitars.

Re: Post your guitars here?
by fiveonethree on 2009-03-16 14:35:16

Honestly, she's a bit heavy...almost as heavy as the gothic explorer I had (26 lbs)...the neck profile is also rather stock (a fairly thick U)...the pickups that were in her were modeled after Seths (I think) and I didn't really care for them so I put a pair of Iommi's in...I'm still forming an opinion on those. That's kind of where I'm at with her at the moment.

Re: Post your axes here?

That's an RD.  It was a model in the 70's with an amazingly complicated circuit board designed by Mood, with a compressor and expander...

I got my almost 15 years ago. It was setup as a regular guitar, no electronics-just this big space in the back.

It's a damn good guitar, but it's a beast.  Big, heavy and powerful.  It's got a big fat neck and 25 1/2" scale.

Damn Gibson and whatever they use to finish guitars-this is the stickiest guitar I've ever played.  The neck gets gunked up real easy.

It's one of my favorite body shapes...I really wish Gibson would re-release it...but no, they've got Explorers to flip upside down....

Thanks! I love those two guitars

I was a Gibson "Kool-Aid" drinker for the longest time..

Playing a hand crafted guitar made me realize how "generic" and slack Gibson had become.

I still love the Gibsons I own but they are no way worth the price they sell for these days.

The Korean luthiers are actually making stuff, IMO, just as good as what's passing QC in Tennessee at a far more realistic price.

Anyway, I didn't mean to soapbox. LOL!

giljanus--how do you like the '51?  the look of that guitar always appealed to me.  there isn't a Fender equivalent is there?  to me the '51 would make a really nice Variax II because it's somewhat of a hybrid in it's own right.  anyway, righteous choice, i hope its plays like it looks.

Second Row:  Michael Kelly Dragonfly II 5 string acoustic bass (I pulled the frets out and filled the slots with white putty.  I call this one Ol' Ugly).

Bottom (L to R):  Mr. Potato neck-through 7 string electric; Dean Avalanche 7 string electric; Conklin GrooveTools 7 string bass; Dean 7 string acoustic guitar; Bruce Wei Art 7 string bass (affectionately known as The Dragon Bass)

Re: Post your guitars here?

serious hardware you have there.  is it really a Mr. Potato guitar?  i'm from Idaho, you think i would have heard of them.  so, with all of the extra strings do you tune to a drop tuning on the lowest one for 1-finger double-stops or do you go for "standard" tuning or both?  i was playing around with a 7 the other day and it was so cool dropping to AEADGBE (i'm assuming that's what it was though i didn't have a tuner, the whole thing may have been dropped a 1/2 step.  anyway, i love drop-D on a six and i usually drop my baritone as well but just curious as to what works for you.

Re: Post your guitars here?
by pbear5 on 2009-03-20 10:34:33

ooooh, nice.  a rosewood neck with a maple fingerboard would be a bit of a twist wouldn't it?  I'm surpised that someone hasn't come along with a split-wood fingerboard--maple for the high 3 rose or ebony for the low.

i like a nice maple neck and board--i prefer the glossy finish over the raw rosewood or ebony, especially when i'm pushing the limits of finger nail length (it's less chalkboardish.)  honestly i have never had an opportunity to compare similar instruments like Strat/rosewood Strat/maple side by side--does it make a considerable difference in tone?

Re: Post your guitars here?
by Septemfluous on 2009-03-20 10:47:16

Mr. Potato was a guy (retired now), in Korea, that would hand make guitars.  He had a shop right outside the USAF base.  He would give free lessons to anybody who would buy his guitars.  The guitar is fairly well made, but there are some flaws that I will overcome:

1.  The cavity for the Floyd Rose is not done well.  I am going to get dental porcelain and fill that cavity completely.  I am going to replace the FR double locking with a Kahler 2317 (http://www.kahlerusa.com/home.html). The 2317 is brass on steel.  There is a 2327 model that is brass on brass... The brass on brass bridge would be darker and have a little less sustain.  Don't want that with a neck through guitar.

2. The fret crowns were never dressed.  I put the guitar on the Plek and it plays like a dream now.

3.  The pickups are pure crap.  I am going to get a set of Q-Tuner pickups for it.

Q-Tuner pickups are the only humbucking pickups that get the 4th order harmonic.  Check them out (http://www.q-tuner.com).

Itune all my 7's (including the basses) B E A D G b e.  Pretty much standard 7 string guitar tuning.  I lost a 1/2 step of range on my bass but gained a million chords.  Also, I can play classical and flamenco guitar parts on my bass and they sound MASSIVE.  The longer scale gives the tone such a melancholy feel.

Re: Post your guitars here?
by Septemfluous on 2009-03-20 10:49:49

Thanks, Slingy.

Hey, let us know how the Rosewood neck sounds.  I've always thought about having a Rosewood neck.  My Conklin has wenge and purpleheart laminated together with a purpleheart fretboard.  The neck wood is so dense it won't float... it does sound great with no real dead spots and a lot of sustain.

Re: Post your guitars here?
by Slingy on 2009-03-20 10:50:40

Not sure about the tone, Rosewood is easier keep looking nice though. I like me some birdseye maple too!

Re: Post your guitars here?
by edrod on 2009-03-25 11:24:24

In some cases, yes we do.  It really sucks cuz it's hard to try a guitar before buying if you are a lefty.  Most of the times you got to with what someone else says (it's quite depressing).  Ernie Ball Music Man changed this.  They finally made the Petrucci series for lefties too and they don't charge more.  This is why all I plan on playing are JP's from now on.

The guitar is actually a Mystic Dream.  The color will change depending on the angle and lighting.  I have seen red, green, purple, sort of browning, turqouise etc

It is bad ass.

Re: Post your guitars here?

I love the Dimebucker, man. It's pretty hot, but not EMG hot. You dont get the tinny EMG sound, but you can get some EMG-like gain out of it. Cleans up rather well also, reacts quite nicely to the volume knob. Paired with the JB in the neck...man awesome combo. I can go from in your face metal to blues in a split second. As far as borrowing it for a decade or so...sorry man, cant do it. I havent put this guitar down since I got it last summer. It became my goto guitar right off the bat, the Mick Thompson sig moved to backup. The one feature I thought would take some time to get used to felt great from day one, which is the V shaped neck. Fits great in the hand.

This is my main squeeze these days, it's a one-off Adam Black Libra.  It was a prototype for the London Music Show but apparently the punters weren't digging the whole Floyd Rose thing.  I bagged it from them when I was looking for a new guitar and asked them if they had any Floyd-equipped models.  SInce I got it, there's getting to be dust on my other guitars...

I was just offered an old replica of a Fender BassVI:

For those who do not know what it is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fender_Bass_VI

Isuspect it'll be a whole lot of trouble finding parts for this baby but for now, I am charmed.

I was just being silly.  The guitar is flasshy and sleek looking.  You would stick out like a sore thumb in an easy-listening, big band setting.

Out of curiosity, why did you remove the magnetic pickups?  Seems like you could've had the best of both worlds.

Re: Post your guitars here?
by toneman2121 on 2009-04-03 07:35:28

not one fender in the bunch. not that there's anything wrong with that.

Re: Post your guitars here?
by variaxlover on 2009-04-03 12:38:45

No room!  I used a V300's guts (with the big cage) and couldn't get the mags back in.  I don't really see the need for them anyway.

Re: Post your guitars here?

Fair enough.

Re: Post your guitars here?
by variaxlover on 2009-04-03 12:48:02

Fender, Schmender  -- just kidding.  I get all the traditional Fender sounds I need from the Variaxes and the Ibanezes (yes, they're different, but I'm not a Strat purist).  I've had some great Strats and Teles in the past but right now I only have two Squier Strats, both decent guitars.  One of those has a gorgeous "reverse silverburst" finish and very unique sounding pickups, with some extra "sizzle" that I've never heard on any pickups before.  Maybe it's only bad wiring or something, but it sounds so good that I'm thinking about adding Variax guts to it and keeping the original mags too.  I'll attach a pic . . .

Re: Post your guitars here?
by fiveonethree on 2009-04-03 16:04:28

That's really clean. Nice job.  I'm not all that familiar with variaxes so I take it there's a piezo in the bridge? I also like the concept of having a kahler on an explorer. I only have one guitar with one and I like it so much better than the floyd roses I have on two others. This was my first project. Someone donated an 80's model Bich to me. I designed a wrap for it and installed 18 volt pups:

Re: Post your guitars here?

actually, i don't have a fender per say, i have a g&l, but it's got leo's name on it so i kind of count that as a fender. never been into collecting an arsenal of axes, hard enough playing one. my bros got 6 guitars, he's likes to collect stuff. he play's but not often at all.

Inside.JPG

Great job on the Warlock!  Very cool finish -- I'd like to see a close up of it.

The Explorer with the Kahler is stock.  I've seen lots of these -- Gibson put their name on the Kahler trem for quite a while in the early-to-mid 80s, especially on Explorers, but I've also seen them on Les Pauls and Flying Vs.

Yes, the "Variation" has piezos in the bridge, just a stock Variax 300 bridge and electronics. I did have trouble getting the saddles high enough; needed to shim up the bridge and the nut to make it playable.  The old Ovation bridge was a lot taller, and also left a nasty hole in the body that had to be filled (thus the "wrap-around" pickguard).  Here's a pic of it without the pickguard.  This will also answer the question about why I didn't leave the mag pickups installed.

Re: Post your guitars here?
by variaxlover on 2009-04-04 17:44:05

Another comment on the Variation -- speaking of "Axes" -- when Ovation first designed this guitar it was more symmetrical, with the left-side shape mirrored on the right.  Look at the pics and imagine that -- it would look a lot like a huge "Battle Axe", which is exactly what they intended!  Proof that the word Axe was being used to describe guitars way back then (in the early 70s), but of course us old-timers already knew that.  Ovation changed the design to this one because the original couldn't be played sitting down.  That's what I heard anyway.

Re: Post your guitars here?
by fiveonethree on 2009-04-04 21:45:48

I think I actually like the crescent better. It has a mystique to it. That's a lot of electronics. Wouldn't it be cool to slim that down some and offer those on the market with interchangable models packs? Hmmm...

Oh, here's an axe:

Here's one of my two I go to for the Floyd Rose:

The other is a Custom Kramer I dont have a photo handy of but will try to get one up. Basically I took an old black Kramer sanded and oiled back of neck put a SD JB in it and plastered white graffity all over it.

Im actually looking to sell this one for another Agile with a Floyd and ebony neck when they put one out. I may go to their custom shop and do a white Agile 3000 series with gold hardware and a FR if I can wait any longer lol.

Check out www.truetemperament.com for the info. I'm one of the guys who brought the neck up in the old forum since I'm a friend of the inventor.

I've done my vac700 also but it was a pain in the a$$ to remove the fretboard - Took me 4hrs...

I don't have an after-picture yet since I need to slightly modify the saddle and the bridge a bit before it's actually finished.

I'm hoping to have done one vaxbass-705 within 2 weeks if the time permits. All this is cool hobby projects!

We have just started the process to record some demo stuff 'in context'. We will use my 3 variaxes and when it's finished it will be put up on the site. That is a fun project!

Re: Post your guitars here?

So you prefer the Rondo over the Schecter and the Kramer? That's interesting! I like that Reaper design but I swore I'd stop at 10!

Re: Post your guitars here?
by Apologist on 2009-04-21 19:42:09

Without a doubt ...the Rondo plays better than either of them ..it's built like a tank I mean the pickup selector is so much more stable and solid you could drop it on it and it would probably chip concrete unlike the Gibsons and Epiphones I've played.

I love the ebony fretboard and the 18:1 tuners keep it rock solid in tune almost better than the Sperzel locking tuners I had on my old guitar.

al3100blackfloyd1.jpg Here's the Agile I would like to get with a FR. They play like butter right outta the box perfect action no buzzing great pickups and you cant beat the price for the quality.

That's why I say every 6 months or so they open up the custom shop and you can customize with whatever options they have handy that they keep in stock and put together your own custom model of your fav ...like a reaper say with white pinstriping and maybe cross inlays ...etc.. anyway here's the one I'd like with a FR and I've considered the reaper too ..but would do custom change to their hot passive pup rather than actives.  But you can't beat the quality for the price anywhere. Something like this is the Reaper I would want:

reapercustombc1.jpg Here's a link to it to see other photos of reaper:

Re: Post your guitars here?
by fiveonethree on 2009-04-23 02:07:01

I always wondered how an ebony fretboard played... For a long time I wanted an ESP EX model in blood red with an ebony fretboard and a kahler tremolo. I got a quote once and it was something like 2,400 bucks which was crazy since what I was asking for, at the time, was a Dan Jacobs EX in their stock color they call Black Cherry. That's when I bought the Killer off of Ebay and customized it. I've grown fond of the maple neck and I prefer Blackouts to EMGs. Anyhow, cool site man! They have some interesting variations over there.

Roblof, that was heavy reading. Very interesting.

Full Smaller.jpgBackside smaller.jpg

Here is one of my guitar contraptions. EC29 from Washburn. Its a missunderstood one, the wooden personification and epitomy of all the excessiveness of the late 80's

Solid maple neckthru ebony fretboard.  Paintjob is page 1 of the "How to do magic shrooms, read comic books, and paint guitars all at the same time, while you're lit" book.  A fine series of instructional books indeed

29 frets, active pickups with onboard midrange booster "lil knob at the end"....Not a bad spec sheet for a 1989 guitar

The neck joint tends to spoil shredders

Caparison....Who's your Caparidaddy ?!

Re: Post your guitars here?
by fiveonethree on 2009-06-01 03:59:07

I'm a sucker for anything black and red. That is very sweet and looks like it would be a dream to play. What actives are you using?

Re: Post your guitars here?
by PixelGrinder on 2009-06-01 15:15:35

Well on this one the pickups you see in the picture are stock, probably EMG's from back in those days, not sure, but they seem less sterile sounding than what is on the market nowdays, the bridge pickup is kind of like a DiMarzio Evolution when it comes to the harmonics and the "in your face" tone, I have another EC29 just like this one but different paintjob,  I changed the pickups on this one and put a DiMarzio Evolution for the bridge and a Seymour Duncan Lil 59 for the neck, the lil 59 is single coil sized humbucker, the black and red one you see in the picture is one I bought recently, in near mint condition

These guitars have a neckjoint and cutaway that messes with your mind, its the original form of the Stephen Davies extended cutaway, not the heavily "bolted on" stuff you see on the Nuno guitars....This one is "sculpted"

If I remember well, this guitar made the cover of Guitar Magazine or Guitar Player in 1989

They were years ahead of their time, and still today, look at whats on the market in the same category, then check the prices....And lets hear a big collective "I dont think so buddy"

Funny you mention that. I just picked up a slightly used Revolver Elite today off of Ebay for 1/3 retail price. Hell, the whole guitar was only 50 bucks more than the sustainer kit!  From what I've heard, I think the sustainer is going to be an interesting addition to some of the more extended experimental feedback driven stuff we've been jammin' on lately....

Warlok, that's a sweet USA Warlock man..

Re: Post your guitars here?
by fiveonethree on 2009-06-11 05:22:59

80's EMGs did seem to have more personality and sounded less compressed imho... I use an old 81 as a neck pickup in an 18 volt circuit and it's not too bad...

Re: Post your guitars here?
by Dave_B on 2009-06-11 08:52:01

It took me quite a while to figure out how to use the sustainer, with the coil drops. but now i have my pickup selection based on what kind of sound im going for. theres alot of different ways to set it up. For really nasty pitch harmonics is set it to the middle bridge/neck and use single coil drop on the neck and humbucker for the bridge. this way gives you the most amount of feedback too.

Re: Post your guitars here?
by fiveonethree on 2009-06-11 16:29:37

Yeah, I imagine it will take a while. At this point, I don't even know how they have it wired or what all the switches do...

Re: Post your guitars here?
by Dave_B on 2009-06-11 16:41:57

the two smaller 2 way switches control your sigle coil to humbucker i believe the down position is the single coil and up is the humbucker. It look like you may have more splitting bridge/neck pickup selections. mine only has 3 positions all neck split or all bridge. just like the line 6 amps theres tons of options to play with. have fun!

Re: Post your guitars here?
by Septemfluous on 2009-06-12 10:44:40

There's another way to get a lot of cool pickup selections if you don't want to drill holes in our guitar to put in switches.  Just install one of these:

http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Electronics,_pickups/Components:_Switches_and_knobs/2/Megaswitches.html

Itdoes more than just turn coils on and off... it will run them series and parallel too.

Positions (all positions humbucking):
1 Bridge pickup (both coils series)
2 Inner pickup coils, parallel (Tele-like)
3 Outer coils, series
4 Outer coils, parallel (Strat-like)
5 Neck pickup
(both coils series)

I have one of these switches and it is awesome.  I can go from grind, to funk, to Tele-like twang, to anywhere inbetween.

Re: Post your guitars here?
by Dave_B on 2009-06-12 11:38:13

dont know if i want to go messin with the electronics in my fernandez cuz of the sustainer, but ive been wanting to revamp an old schecter i havent picked up in a while(006 deluxe). replace the pickups and what not. it has some wiring issues and a similar switch to that one from the link. does that switch work with passive and active pickups? im thinking i want to put some nice passives in it to see the differences in tone. i play metal mostly but just got the HD100 head and thats been takin me on a lot of tangents lately.

Re: Post your guitars here?
by Slingy on 2009-06-12 13:26:49

That's exactly like the stock 5 way lever on my Super Sport, except my middle position has all four coils.

What is that???

It sort of looks like an Ibanez!

Re: Post your guitars here?
by mjhargreaves on 2009-06-29 09:00:43

Indeed it is.

It's an RG08LTD - Spring 2008 limited edition "Gear of the Ninja" RG.

It's more or less the simplest guitar I could find, the idea being to learn to play without getting too distracted by knobs and dials, and it does play nicely.

Pickup wise it's a single Seymour Duncan Blackout (active, bridge only). Knobs and dials wise it has a kill switch and volume control. Reversed headstock and black tuners (I added the black strings).

It's more or less an RG321, fixed bridge, with the head/neck piece from a left handed RG and only one pickup. Cost £280 last December.

Cheers,

Martin.

http://www.ibanez.co.jp/eu/news/f_products/2008/08Spring/ninja.html

Itook some new pics - outside for decent lighting.

Better pic of the body:

The neck is a Wizard II, thin, very fast I like it a lot - this is my second guitar, the first is a Squier strat, and neck wise it's like day and night - the RGR08 is so much nicer to play, and has a very different sound of course (I'm now all in favour of active pickups...). Feel wise it's nicely weighted, and very comfortable - I still haven't got over being chuffed with it six months later.

Cheers,

Martin.

I have an old Peavey Raptor my first electric guitar with single coils and a ESP EC500 i only had a while.Love those humbuckers on my new Spider III 30.

I have an Esteban Accustic also.

I would really like to get some better sound from my Peavey and would very much appreciate some feedback on what pick up mods some of ya might suggest on putting one or more humbuckers on it.I saw a review on a seymour duncan hotrail, bridge. It might be too hot though.I still like my old 60 rock sound as well as some Black Sabbath that the ESP seems to be handling.Would like the Peavey for better sounding 60's rock...So fire away...

I always found these interesting! I have not pulled the trigger on them yet, as they are very expensive to get from here "Brazil"

Re: Post your guitars here?
by texjames on 2009-07-03 14:21:30

ESP/LTD makes some fine Guitars.Couple posts up I asked about better pick ups for that old Peavey.I went down to the local Guitar shop to talk to him about it.He just got a bunch of new guitars in.I saw this LTD H51 and it was hanging there...oh my io had to try it.never even thought about price or if i buy it anyway.Sweet guitar.

Real crisp on Clean which is what i like the Peavey for mainly. The ESP EC500 works graet for distrotion stuff, like Black Sabbath.Anyway i am setting there banging away and say "Dude! How much is this one" He says "$259" I say no way....thats better then spending money on the Peavey to put humbuckers in it.So i bought it.I just got in from the garage wearing it out. Can't belive the sound from a $259 guitar, LTD rocks.

Re: Post your guitars here?
by fiveonethree on 2009-08-29 13:58:20

That was interesting. What I could use would be 12 mini pad switches, maybe twice the thickness of credit card, for triggering samples and changing banks on a Roland SP555 or SP808EX. Better yet, an entire guitar with a built in sampler, sustainer, and midi pickup.

This thing still on? Excellent.

Been a longtime TonePort KB37 owner/operator. Recently picked up a Spider Micro. They're both compliments to what I'm working on, big props.

The arsenal:

Fender Squier Tom DeLonge model, black on black - 1 humbucker, string-thru, strap locks and previous owner put on Sperzel mini-locking tuners

Fender Squier Bass, black on gunmetal - 1 P bass and 1 J bass p/u, thin neck, nice to have around to fill in recordings

Epi Explorer, black w/ gold - always wanted one, now I've got one...and raised the p/us with good results

Taylor 420, maple - 15 years old, booms very loud and seems just about broken in, yeah, there's some camel light ash in there still

Heritage H-150, goldtop w/ nickel - a beast, Keystone Bill Lawrence L500 XL in bridge, super fast neck but will kill a shoulder

Hagstrom HL550, wine red w/ gold tint - single floating humbucker jazz box, entry level but a great find locally

Ibanez RG270, black w/ maple board - gutted, no use for cheap floyd but it screams thru 3 way switch & a pair of EMG81s (middle pickup removed completely)

Schecter Hell Raiser C-1  Fr

Re: Post your guitars here?
by Apologist on 2010-04-18 08:01:28

The Diamond series C-1FR Schecter is a great guitar.

I have discovered that after playing several different guitars that I prefer passive pickups to active and so I'm selling mine for $600 ...

When you got yours did it come with a lifetime warranty on parts ..I wasn't aware that is did til I cracked my Whammy bar on a full dive ...(Schecter support said you dont wanna do this unless the bar is tightly in place but I hate the bar being tight) ... and called their tech support and they sent me the new bar and parts in like 2days ..great crew there.

I use Agiles 3000/3100 from Rondo guitars now some with stock pickups and some I replaced with burst bucker pros a great sounding pickup by Gibson.

Hi guys,

I can't hope to match any of those posted here so far! Here's a list of what I've got at the moment.

Commodore semi acoustic Bass ( prob early 70's)

Solid body Bass SG style, but not sure what it is 'cos it's been stripped and re-lacquered a couple of times.

Brunswick Rodeo acoustic with active pickup.

Elfolk acoustic.

CSL copy of a Gibson 335

Black Squire Strat

No pics of any of those at the mo.

Here's a couple of favs though. I built them myself. Hope I can get the pics to come up ok, not sure how it works on here yet. Probably have to go on to a couple of other posts too.

The first is a Lapsteel, made from American Black Walnut and Ash. The nut/bridge/control plate and rear string retainers I made from brass, the bridge saddle is Oak and Bone.  Fret markings were burnt on by pyrography. Neck pup is single, bridge is a humbuck.

Re: Post your guitars here?
by StevieM54 on 2010-05-31 12:23:04

This one I use most of the time now.

It's Iroko and Ash, Maple neck with Rosewood fret board. MOP fret markers, Cow horn pup surrounds. Pups are - single/single/HB---switched on/off individually with mini toggles.

Re: Post your guitars here?
by StevieM54 on 2010-05-31 12:30:12

This last one isn't strictly mine----I made it for a mate of mine.

It's a solid Ash body, maple neck, vintage Fender machine heads, for the scratchplate I  made up a veneer of Mahogany and Bubinga. The Celtic designs on the back are burnt in using pyrography.

There's a couple more I've done, but can't get to the pics right now.

Sorry none of the pics are too good. How do get them to come up as big pics, not just little attachment thingys???????

Cheers.

Thanks man - incredible story behind it, I'll try to start a new thread about stories with guitars when I have enough time to type mine all out - but she is purty to look at,...and to play

My guitar is an Ibanez!

So no need t post a Picture!! (They all look quite the same, except for some of those japanese hot rod "glow in the dark" models of course.)

But if I can say?? It´s a fantastic guitar to play with (RG 2550z) I have not moded it at all. but am thinking of modding my Strat, from the RG´s inspirations.

My PRS Custom 22 hybrid.

A mix of silver and gold hardware from the 22 and 24 fret models and the vintage bass and HFS buckers from the 24.

So I was told from the shop I bought it from, they only made 100 of them, I have number 26 apparently.

Re: Post your guitars here?
by super_flea on 2010-06-16 02:04:31

nice collection spud.

those Albert Lee models are a wonky design that normally don't look good (despite the fact that AL is an absolute LEGEND), but yours are very cool.  and even though I prefer my LPC with the standard 2PU configuration, the black beauty can't be beat for looks (2 or 3 PUPs)....very nice.

Re: Post your guitars here?
by super_flea on 2010-06-16 02:07:34

nice photo-work mate.  I'm a Fender-guy, but those pics make me positively drool.

Re: Post your guitars here?
by spudmurphy on 2010-06-16 11:56:41

Cheers superflea.

It does take a bit to get used to the shape of the Albert lee - but having owned a Gibson for over 30 years, having played many other gibsons and Fenders I have to say that it is the best guitar I have played. Having bought one I had a near fatal car crash - just before this life changing episode I was umming and arring about getting another. So I thought "you've worked all yer life - owe nothing to anyone - if ya want another then get it"

So I did.!! now I have 3 Alberts a Van Halen and  John Petrucci.

The Albert is my guitar of choice and the tone/playability is just awesome.

Re: Post your guitars here?

why?

Re: Post your guitars here?
by spudmurphy on 2010-06-16 12:47:52

Hi Jeremy.

Why what?

Why do I consider the Albert Lee to be an awesome guitar?

Re: Post your guitars here?
by super_flea on 2010-06-17 02:39:57

....So I thought "you've worked all yer life - owe nothing to anyone - if ya want another then get it"

damn skippy!

that black Albert Lee is particularly unusual, are they P90's in that?  I've never seen that model, was it a special order?

The Black Albert Lee is the 2006 Limited Edition.(LE)

If you ordered the LE edition which applied to most of the EB MM range of guitars and basses. then the "theme" of the LE range was Black guitar with gold hardware/

At that time the Albert Lee came with 2 pickup configs.-  SSS (Single coil seymour duncans) or MM90 ( MM own single coil akin to the gibson P90 pickup).

Also by buying the LE edition you could get a rosewood frteboard on a maple neck. Since then you can now get an all rosewood fretboard/neck and 2 humbuckers - I bleeb Jo Bonamassa has one along with a twin neck Silohouette and some other EB MM guitars - he likes em.

Gibson J45

Gibson SG Std heritage cherry

ESP Alexi Scythe in white with black stripe. -- I don't play metal, just like the way it feels and plays.

G&L Legacy (SSS) in Lake Placid Blue w/ rosewood fretboard satin maple neck.

Epiphone LP Special w/ P90s.

All gloss necks wet sanded to satin with 320 grit. the Epiphone may be for sale. I love the tone of the P90s but hate the noise.

How do you like this one. late 90's National Duolian.  Pic would be better, if I didn't have to use a flash

I lost a Les Paul Standard in Cherry Burst and a Les Paul Studio in wine in a fire. I also lost my Digitech GNX4 modeler and my Fender Pro tube amp. In fairness to my wife...she lost all her stuff too...it's a marriage thing...I decided to only replace part of my gear. Whenever the place is rebuilt, we still have to refurnish it get all the gizmos, yada yada yada. Anyhow, I came across this Gibson Les Paul Anniversay Flood in the blue swirl (the green just blows in my view) along with a Line 6 Spider IV 150w amp. The amp is nice, really, and the modeling is great, really, and it sounds terrific, really, but I miss my GNX4 and my tubes! That said, here's a pic of my new ax. It was practically tuned coming out of the case and sitting at room temp for an hour, just a little bit of buzz at the 5th fret, B string which I quickly fixed. I like the look of this...there's bursts and solid colors everywhere but this is totally different. It plays amazingly well for a Studio...it should for the price(!) and maybe the only downside is that since it's likely going to be at least somewhat collectible...not as good as a Standard but far better than a normal Studio...I'm hesitant to swap out the pickups. Not that it needs them, not at all. But some Seymour Duncans would be great in this. By personal preference, I just would rather have some good open pickups. Doesn't really matter since the amp will easily make up for it lol. Hope you like it!

You guys have some nice axes.

Here's my Carvin Holdsworth HF2 with Koa top I picked up on Ebay a couple of weeks ago.

I love this guitar

Tracks 2, 3, 7 & 10 here are recorded on it into a UX2 with a little sin chorus plus some cavernous reverb.

Here is my AXE. I doubt you will see another like it in your lifetime. It's a Jackson RR1LH (Left Handed) Blue Ghost Flames. Very hard to find in a lefty version.

They didn't have a Jackson case for it because the place that made cases for Jackson in Mexico was destroyed by a hurricane so they sent it to me in a Dean

case. I get upset everytime I realize I'll never be able to get a real case for it, but after I play it a little and it sings to me I feel a little better.
