M13 no headphones. Too bad.
by albertojgg on 2009-09-16 20:30:23

It is really a shame that a unit so specialized in effects does not have haedphones jack like the X3L. With the headphones is posible to fine tune the effects with extremely precision without bothering the neighbors, that will save too much time adjusting the effects, scenes in a reharsal situation.

With my X3L if i wanna make the cover of a song, i plug my ipod into the mini plug jack in, and plug my headphones in the out jack, then while hearing to  the song i make the choices of the effects that match it and make the tweakings, and then in the reharsal with the whole band i do the volume adjustments. Otherwise (M13 scenario) in the reharsal i should have to choose the effects i wanna use, then make all the tweakings, and last my volume final adjustment.

I really wish M13 have headphones out jack, and mp3 in jack.

I think using the M13 with headphones is kinda like plugging the headphones into a distortion or delay pedal. It would sound terrible, because there are no amp simulations. Besides, you gotta crank the M13 through an amp to hear how good it sounds- you could never tweak sounds on headphones and expect those settings to work at a gig- headphones don't sound like a guitar amp.

I think the X3L is perfect for what you want- it has those amp sims and a headphone jack. I am happy the M line doesn't get blurred into the POD line.

Hello Mincer, i forgot to mention that i never ever use the amp models on the X3L, i turn off that block, and only hear the effects by my headphones...... that is the same i was expecting with the M13, no amp model but hearing just effects trough the headset.

M13 will never have a headphone jack and/or and MP3 jack. Sorry. I fully understand your situation. There wouldn't be many guys using it that way so I wouldn't want to burden the price with these extra things.

But, do you currently own and X3? Why don't you run your M13 into that with all effects amp off and run your MP3 player into it and use your headphones there? Or is you sold your X3 to get the M13, grab a Pocket POD Express and use it for a headphone amp.

I had the same thought when I got my M-13 ... well I wanted to use my whole pedal board with headphones when I was on the road in hotel rooms. Mostly to just check out effects but also use the looper to practice. I found a solution that works fairly well. I use a pocket POD and feed my pedal board that has the M-13 on it into the input jack on the POD. I then use the headphone jack on the POD to listen to what I am playing. The pocket POD also has a MP3 input so I can practice along with recordings if I chose to do that also. It does not sound as good as my amp rig, but to be able to take it with me if I am stuck in a hotel for a few days it works just fine.

I know you want it all in one but this does seem like a practical, low cost, portable solution to the problem.

Nowas for how it sounds...I can't say but there are many products out there like this that could do the trick especially for hotel room use like gshamus.  Otherwise, yeah, its a pedal board, not preamp and that's what I love about it and why I didn't get a POD or a RP1000.

Oh, I understand. Then I would use one of the solutions these guys are posting. Obviously I would like to see you use the Pocket POD.

As far as a comparision of M13 to X3L I would search the internet or YouTube, there may be an a/b.

Here's my headphone setup:

Guitar to M13: Left Mono Input

M13: Left Mono Output to Pocket Pod: Guitar In

headphones to Pocket Pod Direct Out

Sounds great!
