Why Gearbox presets sounds better than in PODfarm 2,0?
by Roqfort on 2010-04-20 19:30:16

I've found this question  in POD Farm: General Questions

Q: Will my Gearbox tones work with POD Farm?

A: Yes. POD Farm will load all of your Gearbox presets just fine. You can continue to use them.

But... These presets sounds different. I mean - much worse. It's like sound without gain. Even when I'm setting gain/drive to max.

My question is - when I bought PODfarm 2.0 with plug-in, is it possible to get same plug-in from Gearbox? I know, it would be like downgrade, but for me, Gearbox sounds much better, and has very nice functions like metronome and allows to play with my backtracks from hard disk.

Or... I'm doing something wrong.

Regards

I don't know if you are doing anything wrong.  I personally haven't compared GearBox to PF2 using the same presets.  I'll have to check it out.

I know that the GearBox presets sounded just fine through PF1.

As for the GearBox plug-in, it is no longer available.  The GearBox plug-in does not have the metronome or the trach player either.

I know, that GearBox plug-in is no longer available, but it's software. It should be in the archive. I checked again with different guitars, and I'm sure, that GearBox simulations sounds much better than PODfarm 2.0. I don't care about fancy interface. I've bought it for sound.

The Gearbox and POD Farm 1/2 software are not supposed to have a sonic difference, so I am having a hard time with your issue.

Can you please tell me which presets you are using in both Gearbox and POD Farm 2 and provide a detailed reproduction recipe for the problem you are experiencing.

Regard,

Hi. Try to compare Blossom preset and Ain't Talkin' 'bout Love please.

They sounds totally different in PODFarm 2.0.

Thanks for your help.

Hello,

I just recorded two tracks into my DAW. I recorded a riff onto each track with the Blossom patch. Track 1 was the blossom patch called up in Gearbox, and Track 2 was the Blossom patch called up in POD Farm 2.

With the exception that the input level from POD Farm was a bit louder (therefore creating a larger WAV file in my DAW) each track sounded exactly the same.

Maybe its a function of the Pod Farm 2 having some different options available or something but MANY of my stored sound files sound different when I open them in POD Farm. I went back and opened them again in Gearbox and they did indeed sound like they did before.

Pod Farm offers som great choices not available in Gearbox but things I created in Gearbox sound different when I open them in Pod Farm.

I have the same issue, pod farm 2.0 sounds awful, the distortion is hissy and useless in most models. Change to gearbox and it's amazing sound quality, so I''m sticking to gearbox!

My guess is that you need to change some of the parameters in PF2, as the software is newer (and better), the old settings from GB are not quite right.
