This tone requires you update your Pod X3 to 2.00 or higher.
by Krank678 on 2010-07-11 20:00:39

I created a tone using purely the X3 Pro (not connected to pc and gearbox) and when I tried connecting to my pc and opening the tone in gearbox, I get the message "This tone requires that you update your Pod X3 to 2.00 or higher". I have updated it and tried to load the tone from the X3 again with no luck. I tried saving the tone to a different preset on the X3 and then opening it on gearbox, also with no luck.

I read in the forums somewhere of someone else having a similar problem, however, they only had the issue when trying to load their saved backup bundle. It seems whenever I create a tone on gearbox and save it to the X3, I have no problems loading and recalling those tones with gearbox. If I do it by creating a tone on the X3 and try loading it up to tweak on gearbox, I get no joy. Another thing I noticed, is that when I try loading the tone in gearbox and the error message appears, my X3's display shows an asterisk on the left of the screen next to the beginning of the effects chain (ie. Under the bank number).

there are 12 effects that were in the x3 v2 update that are unavailable in pod farm...

however, if its a gearbox issue, you have to have a newer version of gearbox that willl include the 12 effects.

You need the latest version of Gearbox - v3.7.2

@ zap3nc: Surely when I connect my X3 Pro to my pc and start up Gearbox, the effects that are active in the X3 are automatically authorized in Gearbox? This must be the case because like I said, I have no problem creating the tone on Gearbox when the X3 is connected ie. all the effects are present. It is ONLY when I create the tone on the X3 (not using Gearbox), and then I try double-clicking it on the preset patch-list page in Gearbox, that the error message comes up.

Besides, these are not complex tones I am creating. I had this problem on one as simple as a Dual Tone consisting of a Treadplate Dual on the Left and L6 Big Bottom on the Right and nothing more. I have both of those amps in Gearbox. In fact, I have the Gold Bundle authorized in Gearbox so this surely can't be the problem.

All my hardware AND software is fully up-to-date. This includes Gearbox which is already version 3.72

sounds like you are having another issue...

but NO... the 12 effects from v2.0 upgrade are not available to POD FARM

they should rightly be available in gearbox.... sorry if i was confusing or got confused...

but yeah you need the latest gearbox as well... (looks like you have it)

Ok, thanks. Yeah, I know about the extra 12 effects not being available, but like I said, this is happening on effects that are definitely supported as I wasn't even using the 12 upgrade effects... weird.

Also, I am only concerned about the Gearbox-X3 side of things for now. (No real issues with the Pod Farm as of yet, thankfully).

Hopefully one of the Line6 guys will jump in here and shed some light.

Hello,

I set this up here with our POD X3 Pro (2.00) and Gearbox (3.72) and couldn't reproduce this. I set up a dual tone patch in User Bank 22A. Tone 1 is just a Plexi Lead and Tone 2 was a Soldano. Gearbox launched no problem. Let me know if I'm doing something differently then you.

I was running on a Windows 7 64 bit machine.

What kind of computer and OS are you running on?

Also, can you attach a tone that exhibits this behavior to this thread?

It sounds like you are doing the same thing as me except with different amp selections.

I am running on a Windows 7 32 bit machine - Sony Vaio Laptop

Intel Core 2 Duo T8300 @ 2.40GHz

2GB Ram

The original tone I was referring to in this thread I erased (the one with just 2 basic amps and no effects) but I have another one doing the same thing. I saved it as a bundle as I could not save the tone to my computer as Gearbox did not recognize it. When you open the bundle, the patch is saved to User Bank 1A "7th Heaven".

If you need just the tone, you will have to walk me through how to attach just that particular file as I'm not sure how I would do that.

Ps. Gearbox loads no problem and the patch list shows the "7th Heaven" but the problem occurs when I try to select it.

Hey Miller, any progress with this problem yet? Did you manage to reproduce it on your X3 with the attachment I posted or do you need something else from my side?

Hello,

Sorry it took me a bit to get back to you.

I can reproduce what you are experiencing with your bundle (7th Heaven) but I cannot reproduce it on my X3 Pro when I try to do this from scratch.

Have you tried reinstalling the flash memory since this started occurring?

I did find this thread which is the same issue and the user just overwrote the problem patch with a new one and the problem went away.

It looks like your patches are becoming corrupted somehow. Again, if you haven't try reinstalling the flash memory and let me know if that makes a difference. Thanks.

Hey Miller,

No problem for the wait. I'm sure you are busy .

Have you tried reinstalling the flash memory since this started occurring?

I have reinstalled the flash as well as rolling back  and reinstalling and I still encounter this problem. It doesn't always happen but it happens all the same.

I did find this thread which is the same issue and the user just overwrote the problem patch with a new one and the problem went away.

  http://line6.com/community/message/136581#136581

Idid see that thread before posting my question but it isn't the exact problem I am encountering. My issue differs in that it isn't just from trying to load the saved bundle. It happens when I create the tone using the X3 Pro, save it as a patch to the X3 and then try open gearbox. As I open Gearbox, it shows the tone name in the patch list that appears on the left of gearbox but when I try double-clicking the tone, I get the error message. This is before even saving it as a bundle and trying to reload it.

I can work around this by to re-creating the same tone directly through gearbox but that is still an issue if I don't have my pc available and I create a tone on the X3 that I would like to later tweak using gearbox. This requires that I then go through the X3's tone settings that I create, write them all down and then re-do the patch using gearbox.... time consuming to say the least.

The files are definitely being corrupted somehow but it's difficult to tell why, as it only happens intermittently with some of the tones I create, not all of them. And it doesn't happen with any specific effects. It's very random.

Any other suggestions or ideas?

Thanks again

This is a really weird issue. I'm not sure if you mentioned it but, does it matter which Bank you are in when you create these corrupted tones or is it completely random over several banks?

It is completely random unfortunately.

Hi mate.

First post here :-/

I had the same problem... The problem turned out to be... gearbox doesnt like patches that have cab simulation turned off for some reason.

You should turn cab sims on and backup... at least then 99% of ur settings are backed up somewhere

Rock on

Hallelujah!!!

I just tried to create a patch with cab sim off and the problem occurred again. Then I tried the exact same patch again and turned my cab sim on and whaddya know? IT WORKED!!! I tried it a few times with the same results so it looks consistent. Now I hope Line 6 do something about it as it seems this issue had them stumped.

I didn't mark it answered (mystery third person floating around in Line 6 cyber space must've) so I'm glad you took the time to read it. Thank you. And might I say, a very constructive first post !

I have the same problem with my X3 Live using Gearbox on my Gateway laptop. I also get this error message randomly on patches that I frequently use with no problem at all and suddenly out of the blue there it will be. Frustrating to say the least as I have had to do an update via Monkey at least a half dozen times and I am somewhat convinced that afterwards my tones are coming back to me a tad bit different every time. When I run Monkey it tell me that I have a flash memory but Monkey can't recognize which version (not sure of the EXACT wording of the message, but something to that effect).

It would be great if Line 6 Miller or some other Line 6er could take a serious look into this proble. Is it possibly just an issue with our PCs? Or is it something deeper in the software?

Please help. And to the original poster: I feel your pain, brother...

Peace

@ jamesunger:

While I think some of the errors you're encountering might possibly (emphasis on possibly) be caused by laptop issues, I still think there is definitely an issue with the correlation between Gearbox and the X3 flash software. I think an updated flash for the X3 is long overdue anyway, as I'm sure most of us would agree. I think, in light of your response, I am going to repost this issue in a new thread/question and put links to this thread in the hope that Line 6 will actually give feedback on whether or not they plan to rectify this, so thanks for posting.

Till then I guess we just gotta be grateful for the community members like ninetysix4, who at times, are the only valuable source of info on workarounds to these kinds of issues.

Hey james, I thought I'd post this link to the new thread I created http://line6.com/community/thread/44811

Hopefully they address some of our issues there.
