Need help with rewiring my cable 3.5mm to 1/4" cable.
by rockerdad1 on 2011-01-11 06:08:58

I have an xds95 wireless unit and the strain relief has had it on the transmitter cable. I want to replace the stereo 3.5 mm plug and need to know how to solder the cable. Do both the tip and the ring get wired to the tip on the 1/4" plug or does just the tip get wired? If it is just the tip, then do the ring and sleeve get solder as ground? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi,

An 1/8" (3.5mm) and 1/4" are wired the same, the only difference between the two is the size of the connector:

L (Left Signal) Tip 1

R (Right Signal) Ring 2

GND (Ground) Sleeve 3

David,

Thanks for the reply post. My only problem is the 1/4 inch is not balanced. It is unbalanced. That is where my confusion comes in. But, from your post, I think it is tip and ring on the 3.5 mm to the tip of the 1/4 inch unbalanced, and sleeve to sleeve.

thanks again.

No ... just omit the ring connection entirely.  It is only necessary when using the lav mic.
