Firmware Update: DT50 v1.20
by casparello on 2011-02-14 07:58:58

How do I update my DT50 112 with the Line 6 Monkey software?

The latest Firmware is to improve L6 Link connection DT50 <-> HD500.

(DT50 v1.20 is a FREE firmware update that is highly recommended for all DT50/POD HD500 users. Released 1/6/11)

The DT50 112 can not be connected via USB ... and the MacBook Air has no MIDI Connection :-)

Thoughts?

you have to get a seperate midi interface...

i recommend the m-audio uno, runs about 40$

I see...

I just found this one:

This should do fine.

But why can´t I just connect an USB cable from my Mac to my HD500,

connect my HD500 via L6 Link to the DT50 and a MIDI cable from the the DT50 to the HD500?

The Monkey software should then detect/see the DT50 and update the amp accordingly.

Is this worth a shot? Or not?

No. 'fraid not

The HD500 isn't a MIDI interface.  The L6 Link can't be used for updating either.  You have to use a MIDI interface like the one in your pic or a branded version that does the same thing.  Some cheapie MIDI interfaces aren't necessarily the most reliable choice

i know there are cheaper options out there than the m-audio uno...

but keep in mind that you will need drivers for the midi interface etc as well...

and those cheaper options will be rarely if ever updated and possibly not very good to begin with...

and what happens if you lose the disc?

feel free to look around... but i would advise against a no-name cheapy... you'll be surprised how handy the midi interface will become...

Thanks Nick.I will have to go via USB/Midi Cable then.

By the way: ESI is known for great products: http://www.esi-audio.com/aboutus/imprint

Andthe MIDIMATE is compatible with Windows XP and Mac OS X without the hassle of complicated driver installation.

Besidesit´s half the price of the product you just recommended ;-)

is there a manual or something lile that where the update proceedings are explained?

No, but you really just connect your mac/pc and the dt50 via this cable and download and run the free "Line6 Monkey"-software from the line 6 website.

The software then takes you step by step through the process. Couldn´t be easier. Enjoy.

Due respect to my bro Zap, but I would advise in favor of a no-name cheapy USB to MIDI cable.  My Hong Kong eBay special works great, cost less than $5 (including shipping), and I never had to install any driver.

it's a crapshoot... and i'm sure that there are good ones...

but i ended up using mine for many different things including keys and vdrums.

i also suspect that m-audio wouldn't waste resources creating and developing new drivers if the windows out of the box driver was successful in every possible way...

just food for thought... but sometimes a few bucks extra can save you down the road...
