Pod Farm 2.5 (No hardware independence)
by Charlesonaboat on 2011-05-17 17:36:10

I doesn't seem to work. I installed the latest drivers, installed Pod Farm 2.5, authorized my computer, but

Pod Farm runs as a trial when my GX is unplugged. No hardware independence...

Are you positive that your computer is authorized, and not just the GX?

Positive.

What does it look like with the GX plugged in?

GX Plugged in.

What does it show you when you click on the "My Software" link?

My Software link.

But to run the standalone without a Line6 device, I think you still need to select a digital audio interface.

never mind, I think Big Chase Nailed it!!

In the "My Software" section, it shows that you only own the Metal Shop model pack and nothing else.  Did you purchase POD Farm 2?  It's not showing up in your Line 6 account.

Re: Pod Farm 2.5 (No hardware independence)

Ahh.  The POD Farm licenses are hard coded into your GX, and cannot be used by any other devices,  The only licenses that are transferrable are purchased licenses, not the ones that come free with hardware. I believe the same goes for Propellerhead Record.

So Pod Farm 2.5 update is useless.

Depends on your point of view.  It's working out well for others who own the purchased software version.

Though it says on the site:"It includes support of POD Farm 2.5 Standard and Platinum model sets, as well as POD Farm Free."

What am I not understanding here?

Also, the plugin is just messed up now. This is how it looks on my DAW:

you might want to read the license manager FAQ: http://line6.com/community/docs/DOC-2277

basically this new structure just allows you to share your addons to other machines and hardware interfaces without buying licenses for each device...

it doesn't enable you to share or use anything that wasn't an addon....without plugging in the hardware

Ok, I understand. So even though I have a license for using Pod Farm for my GX. I cannot use it hardware independent,

because my Pod Farm came free with my GX?

So, what about the plugin in my DAW? why does it look messed up like it does on that screenshot.

It looked and worked completely fine on 2.03

As far as the messed up graphics. it's doing it for me as well.  Looks like we've found a bug.

its all new.... so i dont have much experience with it at this point... but you might try this trick from L6Hugo

doesnt sound like you exact issue... but could be related:

Hey guys,

I have been able to reproduce the no sound/no input source problem with the POD Farm 2.5.  We will be logging a bug.

For the time being, please try the following workaround:

Disconnect  the USB cable from the interface while POD Farm 2.5 is running, then,  reconnect the USB cable.  Then, go into POD Farm Preferences/Hardware  Tab to select or re-select the Line 6 device, then, hit the Apply  button.  Input Source and Record Sends should be available afterwards.

Regards,

Line6Hugo

I think I can't access the "preferences" when I'm using it as a plugin in my DAW.

..So I tried going back to 2.03, but Line6 only has 2.02 on the site, so I went with that.

Uninstalled 2.5, installed 2.02, and now I get this:

I downloaded 2.5 again and reinstalled.  The graphics problems cleared up, and all everything seems to be working OK in the VST plug-in now.  I suggest redownloading and reinstalling.

Downloaded again and reinstalled...now it just got worse for me. None of them work now, standalone or vst.

It appears empty.

+1 to Chas: " The POD Farm licenses are hard coded into your GX, and cannot be used by any other devices,  The only licenses that are transferrable are purchased licenses, not the ones that come free with hardware."

http://line6.com/community/docs/DOC-2277 spells it out like this:

Can I remove licenses from my Line 6 device or transfer them to a different Line 6 device?
Since your purchased licenses are attached to your account, and not your devices, using licenses on different Line 6 devices is only a matter of authorizing the devices.

NOTE: One exception is “Factory Add-Ons”. These are features that can only be used with the device it came with and cannot be removed from that device to be “shared” with your other Line 6 devices. For example, POD XT Live comes with an FX Junkie Add-On. After authorization, License Manager does not make that unit’s FX Junkie available to your other authorized devices.

You will see bad graphics if you move your VSTs or install them to a custom location. You are actually still instantiating the *2.0* VST plugin in your DAW – not the 2.5 plugin. In order to fix this, either:

-Copy the 2.5 VST from \Program Files\Line 6\ to the place where the 2.0x VST is

or

-Reinstall POD Farm 2.5 and tell the installer to install the VST to the same place where the 2.0x VST is.

Thanks. Fixed it.

So to sum it up, no matter how many devices you purchase that come with Pod Farm, if you don't actually purchase Pod Farm as a stand-alone piece of software you do not get the benefit of hardware independence. All of your Pod Farm licenses are tied to your specific pieces of gear, not the installed software. Way to soak your customers for another $100-$300 dollars.

Re: Pod Farm 2.5 (No hardware independence)

what would stop them from selling their gear AND keeping pod farm etc....? creating a free license for themselves....

maybe you are honest and would never do such a thing... but the world doesn't work like that...

the licensing requirements are totally reasonable...
