Vyzex Pocket Pod editor problem - pocket pod keeps shutting off

I'm having an extraordinarily annoying problem where as soon as I attempt to do anything at all in the Vyzex Pocket Pod editor, my Pocket Pod shuts off and restarts immediately. It seems to work fine even when I have my guitar plugged in to the pod and the pod connected to the computer via USB. However, as soon as I do anything such as choose another amp model in the editor, the pod shuts off and starts back up right away. I haven't been able to get anything done whatsoever. I think it might be the software because like I said, the pod itself seems to work just fine in any other case. I have a MacBook Pro with Mac OS X Version 10.6.5 and I'm running the Vyzex editor version 1.17 which I understand is the latest version. If anyone knows anything about this, please let me know what's going on. Thanks a lot.

The problem is actually that your MacBook's USB port is shared internally with other devices. The way PocketPod was designed, it restarts whenever the USB MIDI connects, which means you won't see any issue running the PocketPOD without USB, but when you connect the USB PocketPOD restarts. In any other computer this would be the end of the issue - You'd run the Vyzex editor and be good to go.

On your MacBook however, as soon as Vyzex tries sending any volume of MIDI messages down to PocketPOD while the devices that share the MacBook USB port (typically the mouse and/or keyboard) are talking, the PocketPOD USB port times out or powers down offline momentarily under the shared load and the PocketPOD reboots, killing the editor session.

As an aside - You do have a guitar cable plugged into PocketPOD when you do this right? If PocketPOD knows that a guitar is connected it will be less trigger-happy about shutting down if the MIDI connection flickers. We have had cases where this actually fixed the problem.

Unfortunately this problem did not exist in both USB ports of pre-unibody MacBooks, which is all that existed when PocketPOD was released and the Vyzex software was developed, so you have to appreciate that neither Line 6 or Psicraft could know that such manufacturing cost savings were going to come out from Apple several years into the  future. This issue is entirely in hardware (PocketPOD's and the MacBook's) and the only real alternatives you have (aside from the guitar cable above) are to try a different USB port on your Mac to see if that helps, or to try connecting a powered USB 2.0 hub between the MacBook and the PocketPOD to see if this can do a better job keeping the PocketPOD's USB Port online: The issue could possibly have to do with the power level on these newer MacBook USB ports and this approach can address that by providing solid USB power levels via the hub if so.

The one thing we suggest to PC laptop users who have this kind of flaky USB interaction with their PocketPOD is for them to buy a USB port adapter card, but of course Apple doesn't believe in these as options for entry point machines as far as I know.
