What kind of latency can I expect with the UX8 on Windows 7 64-bit?
by Mister36 on 2011-07-25 10:39:22

It's largely in the title really but I'm considering picking up a UX8, despite them now being discontinued (I think...) because it seems as close to what I'm looking for as I think I'm going to get.

However, on forums and elsewhere on the internet, there has been mention of the latency and particularly the round trip latency when monitoring through a DAW not being good enough for live use. Is this true? What sort of figures are we looking at with the UX8 on a Windows 7 64-bit machine with an Intel Core i7-2600K and 8GB RAM?

I realise a definitive answer may not be possible but I thought I'd ask anyway. Thanks.

Hey Mister36,

The Toneport UX8 and the Tone Direct Monitoring features a latency of 10ms.

Thanks for responding.

Is that 10ms using the Tone Direct Monitoring feature? Or 10ms RTL? And at what buffer is this? The best available?

Hey Mister36,

It is 10ms using the Tone Direct Monitoring.

This is with a buffer size of 128 samples, which is the best available with the Line 6 ASIO Driver.

Ah, right. As I suspected. The RTL/through software (i.e., through a DAW) latency will be significantly higher than that then and so would be unusable for my purposes.

Thanks for getting back to me though. Much appreciated.
