HD 300 To Mixer
by paligulus on 2011-11-22 07:23:14

Hey Folks,

I intend to buy a HD300, which I plan to run straight through a PA.  I had planned to run a guitar jack out of the Balanced Output L (mono) to the Mixer.

However I noticed there is an XLR output too in the pictures.  What is the ideal way to hook up to a PA?

The reason I am asking is because I want to know whether I need to buy some XLR cables too!!!

     Thanks,

If you are using a long cable run to the mixer then XLR is probably the way to go, to reduce noise and signal loss.  Make sure that your mixer supports a Mic level connection.

Also, be aware that the left 1/4" cable automatically converts to Mono when just one cable is used.  However, I don't beleive that the XLR connection does this so you may need two cables for stereo or to get the full signal in certain scenarios.

Also, to run direct to PA make sure the Output Mode switch on the rear of the HD300 is set to STUDIO.

I run my HD500 direct to PA. I use 2 XLRs from the balanced outputs.

That will give you your best signal from the HD300.

Hth.

If you want to force the HD300 mono on the XLR out, you can put a dummy 1/4 plug in the Left 1/4 out to force the summation...It affects the XLRs...useful for mono PA systems where there may be only one channel available for you...

So would you pan the two channels on the mixer?

Ok, so I've been searching the forums and reading the manuals for the HD 300.

I need to run my HD 300 direct to the mixer.

I've been doing this using a single xlr, and the dip switches on the back set to studio.

Does one have to run both xlrs to the front of house mixer for the optimal sound?

I don't have the option of having an amp with me, for all intents and purposes the HD 300 is the amp. And as far as I know I can't run more than one xlr, there isn't space at the mixer.

Do Ineed to get a dummy 1/4 inch plug and fool the device to get a better sound? Or can I just use one XLR and if so which port? Left or right? If I do get the dummy plug, I run the HD 300 in Dual mode?

Any help is appreciated. The manual doesn't really spell it out if you should use two for runing direct or if you can get by using a single xlr.

The information above may not be current, and you should direct questions to the current forum or review the manual.
