DT50 Quit Working
on 2012-01-30 19:41:48
Does anyone have any insight on this? I was just jamming away and the DT50 just flat out quit, died, no lights, no power, nothing. I felt around the back, no hot spots just normal a little warm. I pulled the fuse on the side next to the power inlet, it was fine. I jumped on the forum to see if I could find anything on this issue and found one thread, someone said something about a fuse under the power plug itself, pulled it out, blown. Got some fuses today put it in, blows immediately. Im taking it to the local repair center tomorrow but im very disappointed as I bought it 1/12/11 and its barely out of warranty. The other thread talks about the power supply being bad and they have been waiting about a month to complete the repair. Ive been gigging with it about twice a month for the last 3 months and waiting to get this fixed is going to kill me. I love the tone but man I dont want to be worrying about reliability of this either. Anyway, anyone have simular issues?

as long as you replaced the mains fuse with an identical replacement, the usual thing to cause that is that you've had a power tube fail.
think about it another way... if the fuse didn't blow you could have smoked your whole amp. the fuse going is a good thing as it likely saved your amp from more damage.
Also it's just sometimes what happens with tube amps which is why most tube amp manufacturers offer a year or more warranty on the amp, but only 90 days warranty on tubes. If you've had the amp a year, it's time to get it serviced anyway (tube amps should be serviced regularly to check the bias, and based on how much you use it the tubes replaced every couple of years or more under heavy use).... For these reasons, gigging with a tube amp means you should really always take a backup with you in case a tube goes on you at the start of the gig... even if your backup is just an iphone based amp simulator that you can plug into the PA.... it's still a backup that would get you out of a fix!
looking around a support forum will always turn up various issues with similar products, it's the nature of a support forum that many of the posts will be about issues, and not reflective of the many people who have no issues at all.
So my advice is to wait and see what your amp tech says, as it could just need a new set of tubes, and could be fixed in a day...
Let us know how your amp turns out.

Thanks for the response Rowbi. I had the amp checked out, its looking like the power transformer is bad or possibly the rectifier. The tubes are ok, I will have them changed but they are not causing the problem.

I just picked up the amp yesterday from the service center, they swapped out the power transformer now it works fine, no more blown fuses. I got to give Line6 props for extending the warranty and taking care of the repair at no cost to me even though it was out of warranty. As a long time Line6 customer/user, this is the first time ive ever had an issue with any of their gear (POD 2.0, TonePort GT, XDS Plus, Spider Valve, Bogner Alchemist, HD500, DT50) Im very grateful that they stand behind it!!
