HD500 Latest Flash 1.4 problem with HD500 Edit via USB on PC
by edstar1960 on 2012-02-01 07:13:09

I upgraded my HD500 to Flash 1.4 last night.  Also downloaded latest drivers and latest HD500 Edit.

I was using my laptop which runs Vista Basic.

I connected the HD500 via USB to the laptop and was happily creating custom sounds and auditioning them via headphones on the HD500.

However, when I clicked on the SEND SELECTED button to transfer my settings from the PC to the HD500, the sound I heard in my headphones when I played was the sound of the guitar just going straight through as if I had just selected a New Tone.  I checked the HD500 and could see that the GUI was showing the correct fx and amp had been selected and that the relevant foot switches were illuminated. I checked the HD500 EDIT screen and could see that the correct fx  and amps were on and selected.  Yet it was behaving as if I had a New Tone with nothing switched on where before I had clicked the SEND SELECTED button I had the my selected fx and amp loud and clear. I tried swapping between memory locations within HD500 EDIT and also by pressing the footswitches on the HD500 yet it persisted with the NEW TONE sound - however - after a few minutes of this swapping the actual sound would suddenly kick in and be there!

This happened a few times as I was trying to set up 4 new patches - and each one did the same thing.  The last one did not seem to want to kick in at all - so I just disconnected the HD500 USB from the PC - thinking that if I had lost the sounds that I could just try again - however - when I checked on the HD500 all my sounds were there and working correctly.

Has anyone else experienced this?  Is this a known bug and is there a fix for it?

Thanks.

Eddie

Bump.

Just me then? Or has anyone else hit this issue?  Thanks.

The only reports I have seen of similar problems were mostly traced to the fact that HD500 Edit and the HD500 device itself can get out of sync when you use the HD500 device itself to make changes (especially a patch change using footswitches) while HD500 Edit is running. They both have their own patch edit buffers, and can get out of sync, with unpredictable results such as you describe.

Recommended practice is to not touch the HD500 device while HD500 Edit is running. If you can provide a recipe to reproduce the behaviour using ONLY HD500 Edit then others can try out your recipe. If it is reproducible Line 6 would probably consider it to be a bug.

If it only happens when you are making edit/patch changes using the HD500 while Edit is running - then just avoid doing that.

Thanks Silverhead - I will try that out.  I am pretty certain that I was only making changes on my PC when I experienced the problem - but I will repeat the exercise to see if I can reproduce it - if not then I will put it down to one of those things and I will certainly avoid making changes on the HD500 when connected to HD500 Edit.  If I can reproduce the problem then I will document the steps here.

I rolled back Monkey to 1.43 and reinstalled the Flash 1.4 level on my HD500.

I could not recreate the problem.

However, when I set the VOL pedal on HD500 Edit and set Min to 0 and Max to 100 then had to move the pedal on the HD500 to har my sound then it did play up a little - made some stuttering noises and did not recognise the pedal position when I changed patches.  However, it never went back to just ignoring all settings like my initial description.

Anyway - I have learnt that I must not touch the HD500 controls whilst editing with the PC with HD500 edit.

Thanks again Silverhead!

After updating the firmware you should reset the Global Parameters and recalibrate the pedal:
