DT25 vs DT50...trying to decide (Head only)
by dschaaf on 2012-02-07 02:10:57

Just wanting to get some feedback on the DT25 vs the DT50. I am looking at picking up one of the 2 heads to use with my HD500. While I don't need the 50 watts of the DT50 (25 would be sufficient) I am wondering if there are any advantages of the Dt50 over the DT25 as they are only $300 apart here in Canada ($1259 DT50/ $949 DT25)

Thanks,

Derek

if you only need 25 then the 25 has a couple of benefits over the 50.  the 25 is lighter, and has channel AND reverb footswitch option.  the 50 only has channel footswitch if you wanted to use without your POD.

aside from that there's very little difference (other than the wattage) and to be honest 50 watts isn't much louder than 25 watts.  in fact 50 watts is only 3db louder than 25 watts which isn't all that much at all.

I have both DT25 and DT50 head by the way.

Much appreciated!

no worries.  let us know how you get on.

oh something else to add... the 25 tubes will also add a little more tube warmth at slightly lower volumes too.  that's another bonus with the 25

Cheers

FYI- I use a Rivera Rock Crusher with my DT-50 and have oogles and gobs of tube warmth at even "lower" volumes than the discribed above...

Some people are worried about using certain hotplates but Ive found that if you do it right with this one there are no concerns or issues,  and it makes the amp sound great...

So there are ways to get the DT-50 to BedRoom levels with post tube goodness too, and the added bonus that you will never be sorry if you gig it outside. This sucker can be LOUD as hell when needed.

I've got both DT25 head with a 1x12 cab and a DT50 1x12 combo. I use them both depending on the size of the venue, there isn't much to choose between them for overall sound but the DT50 definitely has more headroom. I've replaced the speakers with Celestion 70th anniversary vintage 30's.

I have both...If I had to choose, I would take the DT50...It's sounds slightly better to me...the headroom is a factor in that also...Keep in mind, my impression of better sound from the DT50 is a VERY, VERY marginal difference and only when I have my audiophile a$$hole hat on...

tonally both amps are fantastic...headroom would be my only concern...that's pretty subjective as everyone's situation and preference is different...good luck.

Um... how much of a difference did that actually make? The stock G12H90, as I understood it, is basically just a 90W version of the 70th Anniversary 30. I would've expected them to be fairly comparable in their frequency response.

doubtful...Seems more like like a cross between g12k-100 and a Seventy80 to my ears...g12k is probably closer...Nothing like a Vintage 30s at all... I have GH90s, V30s and Seventy80s....GH90 is a pretty clean speaker...
