G90 signal dropping out
by jsmineer on 2012-03-01 19:39:52

I need some help in a replacement or getting this thing fixed. I bought it a week ago and it's dropping out every 10 to 30 seconds for a split second or so. Batteries are new, changed channels, tried high and low power, no other wireless problem in the room, no wifi, etc. When the signal drops out the green RF lights disappear then come back on when the signal returns. I'm guessing it's the transmitter. I've also noticed when the signal isn't dropping out there's periodic changes in the tone. Either I lose high end definition or it sounds like a phaser or flanger comes on for a second or two. I've only used it 3 times now and it's getting progressively worse each time. Would appreciate some direction in what to do to get it fixed or replaced as this is useless to me. Thanks

Can you exchange it for a new one at the store where you bought it?  You may have a deodgy transmitter.

I contacted the dealer and they'll take it back for refund or exchange. I would like the exchange but I'm reading all kinds of problems with these units on the forum. Seems to be a common problem and hopefully gets fixed.

It's hard to say from here.  Since it is brand new, there could be a hardware problem since most failures happen in the first 10 hours or so.  But equally it could be a problem with something operational.  If your dealer will exchange it for you that would be the easiest thing for you to check.

Please let us know.

You have to remember that the service forum is where people with problems go.  The other 50,000 perple with no problems don't.  I think if you go look at other forums for performers you will see that Relay gets a lot of praise for the units.

Totally understand. It's just my luck to get the lemon.

You DID go through the troubleshooting list, right?

Yes I did. I'm going to give it one more shot tonight in a different venue to see if I have the same problems. If I do, it's going back to the dealer for an exchange. I've already contacted them and they told me to send it back. Hopefully I'll get one that is good if this one proves to be bad. Thanks for following up.

One of the problems you can have with a G90 is that you can plug the antennas into connectors that are not the ones assigned in setupo ... in other words you have no antennas.  One of the tricks you can do with a G90 is add a second pair and then assign the antenna switch to all.

Yes, the correct antennas are selected. I have the unit in a rack and would have nowhere for the rear antennas to go but straight out if I did that. Reception doesn't seem to be a problem. The 5 green RF lights are on except for the periodic dropouts. They go out then back on. Always 5 lights at all times.

Yeah ... that's not right.  What happens if you turn off the transmitter.  Do those  LEDs become red?

No, the LEDs go blank. I don't know that I've ever seen them go red.

That's fine.  IF they went red it would mean that there was outside interference.

Received the replacement unit. No dropouts or problems so far.

I had the same thing happen to me   when I bought my G90, Sometimes it would work great, then it would just cut out on me other times, With mine I noticed when I changed the batteried i would have to tap the TPB 12 sometimed to get one or both to come out. I found a small star tip driver, loosened the screws on the back of the TPB 12 just enough to where the batteries can slide easily, then noticed no more drop outs. could be luck but I am thinking when I played there is just enough rattle in the battery door that if the batteries themself do not move freely, I was loosing the connection for a split second and it was causing my relay to cut out and back in.
