Tones: Spider Valve --> HD 500 ??
by Karma180 on 2012-03-16 07:27:09

Hi, newb to HD500.

There are a bunch of tones in my Spider Valve amp that I like and would like to get into my HD 500, But, as u know, it doesn't ahve a USB slot. Is there a place to downlaod those specific tones?

Thanks if you can help,

Karma

i'm afraid the design of the Spider and HD series are completely different and there is no way to directly share/convert tones between them.  You would need to rebuild your presets using the models and effects on the HD.   On the upside:  the amps and effects on the HD are significantly better than those on the Spider

the pod hd can't run spider valve tones, even if you could download them off the device.  depending on what version you have (mk I vs mk II), I think the tones are based on Pod 2.0 or Pod XT/X3 technology.

what you CAN do is run the HD500 via the 4 cable method.  then you could use the spider valve for your pre-amp tone and use the pod hd for effects, but then also have patches where you are bypassing the spider's pre-amp and using the pod hd's amp modeling.  if the spider valve has midi switching (i think the mk 2 does), you could also set up the pod hd to switch channels/patches on the spider, although i'm not sure about that.  if it doesn't have midi switching, you'd have to switch patches on the spider with a different footboard than the hd500, so you might have to do a lil tap-dancing.

i'd recommend trying to recreate your patches in the pod HD.  I run my pod into the effects loop return (power amp in) of my spider valve.  I find the pod hd tones are much better than the spider's.  there's nothing you won't be able to do in the pod better that you can do in the spider.

+1 to All,

You can't directly download tone files from a Spider Valve to the HD500. But if you use the two in conjunction. Don't forget to checkout our connections vid:
