POD HD400 Tuner Problem.
by indigobjn on 2012-03-19 09:02:52

Hi Everyone,

I have this strange problem with the built-in Tuner on my POD HD400. The problem is whenever I enter the Tuner mode by holding the Tuner FS and then Tune my guitar and hit either the Tuner FS or anyother Foot Switches, instead of returning back to the preset I was playing before switching to Tuner mode goes to other presets randomly. For Example, let's say I am playing the preset on 26D and then enter the Tuner Mode and after tuning I hit the tuner button or D Footswitch to get back to 26D but instead of returning to 26D it goes to 23D (different bank) or 26C (same bank). I know this is strange but don't know what's causing this problem. Can anyone help me our?

Please try to provide a specific and reapeatable recipe to reproduct this behaviour. I suggest you make sure HD400 Edit is not running (just to remove one variable).

Start by powering the HD400 on and then list the minimum sequence of footswitch operations to repdroduce the problem. Then others can try to reproduce it wnd we'll be able to tell if it is something that needs to be fixed in the firmware or if it's just something with your device.

If the latter, I would start by backing up any important presets and then do a factory reset.

followed by a pedal calibration:

If that doesn't work, I would run Line 6 Monkey with the HD400 connected and update (or reinstall) the latest firmware.

I'm having a very similar issue with my HD300.  It's pretty infrequent, but it will take me to either a different preset or to 1A but without the actual preset loaded (it just says "User Preset").

Hi d-wrek,

Yeah it is pretty infrequent with my HD400 too. And yes, I forgot to mention that it sometimes just says "User Preset" on a different location.

Hi silverhead,

This behaviour is pretty infrequent with my HD400 too. And sometimes instead of taking back to different presets on a different bank after exiting the Tuner mode it just shows USER PRESET taking to a different location at the same time.

Well here is the list of FS sequence when this problem comes in.

26D -> Tuner Mode -> Hit Tuner button/FS(A,B,C,D) -> 23C

23D -> Tuner Mode -> Hit Tuner button/FS(A,B,C,D) -> 23C

26(A,B or C) -> Tuner Mode -> Hit Tuner button/FS(A,B,C,D) -> 26D

20(A,B or D) -> -> Tuner Mode -> Hit Tuner button/FS(A,B,C,D) -> 20B

I just realized that this problem comes in whenever I use the Tuner while I am in a Bank of the presets that I created. But it seems to work fine when I use the Tuner from the Bank of Factory Presets.

Thank You,

Bijen.

Hi silverhead,

I just checked it both without connecting my HD400 to the computer and connecting to the computer (HD400 without not running) but the problem is still there. The problem is still there with the bank containing factory presets too. I think I need to perform a Factory Restore followed by Pedal Caliberation and hope it eliminate the problem.

Thank You

Bijen.

Yes. And if that doesn't work you may need to reinstall the device firmware by running Line 6 Monkey.

Hi,

I did perform the factory reset and pedal caliberation but it didn't work. So, I reinstalled the device firmware but the problem is still there. In fact, less frequent than before. And yes, I forgot to mention before that there is one more problem. Sometimes when I try to enter tuner mode by holding the tuner footswitch, as soon as it enters the tuner mode it exits by itself.

What do I do now? The problem is still there.

Thank You,

Bijen.

It sounds to me like a hardware fault with your switches. I would take it in for servicing, hopefully covered under the 1-year warranty.

... unless anyone else has other suggestions.......??

I'm from Nepal and there are no any service centres here. The closest service centres are in India/Bangladesh. Are these authorized LINE 6 service centres?

You could call Line 6 at the number you will find under the Contact Us button at the foot of this page. They can provide you with some guidance. It will be a long distance call for you - the UK will likely be cheaper.
