Toneport di gold to record vocals?
by steve17 on 2012-05-16 11:43:31

the toneport doesn't have a preamp or xlr connection. I have an sm58 with a 6.5" jack and the toneport has vocal models... but would anyone record vocals with it like that?

The TonePort DI was designed to be a Direct Input for a guitar or bass. Although you could try and use a conversion adapter to connect a mic and then use the gain/volume controls of GearBox/POD Farm to add level to input signal.

Ideally, to record vocals or input from a mic, you will need to use a audio interface that features a dedicated XLR mic input. Our POD Studio UX1,UX2, and  KB37 interfaces feature XLR mic inputs. More information about them can be found at the link below:

If I got a ux1 could I use them together on the same pc? I use the di gold for tones... I did read you could!

Not at the same time.

Does your Di Gold have the vst plug-ins?

If so you could record vocals with the UX1 and the use the DI Gold to access your plug-in tones (assuming it has a license for the plug-ins).

I'm pretty sure the DI Gold came with all the packs as Factory add-ons, if that is the case, you can not authorize them to another device.

You can tell by running the License Manager. If the Model Packs show as italicized  then they are factory add-ons.

I have this bundle. http://www.amazon.com/Line-GearBox-Toneport-Recording-Interface/dp/B000JKVLR2 So record guitar on the toneport... then do vocals on the ux1? I think someone said you keep the di gold as a dongle?

i have the same device, basically i'd plug the DI-Gold in, and tuck it behind the desk (as a dongle)... just use theUX1 for everything... switching between them would be a huge pain in the rear... because you'd have to switch speakers etc...

alternatively... just get the model packs and pass the DI gold onto a friend/sell, since you won't be using it.

How does it work like that? Is it the gear box plug in that you use?

no, you get a free upgrade to pod farm version 1 with the DI gold, use that plugin or standalone if you prefer.

it might be tricky though.... sometimes pod farm doesn't like having multiple authorizations...

the best answer is to get teh model packs.. but you can try my suggestion if you don't want to spend the money.

Ok I also own a podxt that I maxed with all the model packs. I see that the ux1 has inputs... can I put the podxt through the ux1 and still get a good tone? I take it I would the 2 inputs on the back of the ux1 from the mono outs on the podxt?

Also is there a list of the models on the maxed out podxt, the di gold and ux1 as it comes? I'm just curious.
