Paramatric EQ or Mid-Focus EQ to cut out fizz?
by mirflee on 2012-07-07 03:19:59

I know that with Line 6 modellers, there's bound to be fizz. I'm curious as to how do you guys cut out the annoying fizz? Do you guys simply roll it off with the Mid-Focus EQ or just suss it out with the Paramatric ones? What's the best possible way to reduce the fizz?

Thanks for reading.

Seriously, open the bottle slowly and leave it stand for a few hours.

Or get one of these if you're hearing fizz http://harmonicconverger.com/HC_Home.html.

The same way I get rid of fizz when using Tube amps and that's not intended as a joke. I've heard more fizz from tube amps the ways they're  dialled by Metal Players. In summary use less distortion than you think you need (too much gain muddies and thins out the sound) and use the amp controls just like you do on a real amp.

I'd be curious to know if anyone knows the difference between this HC or Electo Harmonx's Analogizer

but I would say also to turn down the gain and a bit of the high end.  just hair by hair untill it goes away

+1

It's funny when the Shred Kiddies overcook the gain on their amps and then complain about the tone.

Just in case:

Check your output mode too.  Make sure you are using the right one

- Combo/Stack Front if plugged into the front of an amp

- Combo/Stack Power Amp if plugged into the FX Loop

-  Studio Direct for a PA/Full Range setup.

See

And

class="jive-link-external-small" href="http://foobazaar.com/podhd/toneGuide/eq" target="_blank">http://foobazaar.com/podhd/toneGuide/eq

Usethe parametric with high q if the annoying frequency range is below 5khz for minimal impact on tone. If its above that you have to trim the whole top end with the mid focus or pre eq the amp to try to smooth out the general distortion tone

I reduced the 1500hz and 500hz frequencies.  It tightened up the bottom and got rid of some annoying high frequencies.  I play heavy metal now and run the PODHD through the effect return of a pair of Marshalls in stereo.  I completely bypass the Marshall pre-amp.  I've done this for years and had a nice tone.  A buddy of mine does the same thing with the AXEFX.  Never really had anything I'd call fizz just the normal stuff you have to do to EQ a guitar.  Amps, cabs, pickups, guitar, personal taste, style all have to be accounted for.  EQ is everything.  Take your time and don't try to get it done in one session.  Your ears will get burned out and play tricks on you.

a certain amount o fizz can also be attributed to your speakers.  both my speakers, a celestion  and a scumback produce a high frequency fizz when pushed.  a speaker that is rated twice what the amp is should ensure little or no speaker fizz when pushed.  just pure amp tone
